Here they are copied & pasted from the Wikipedia article on them because its late and I'm lazy:-
Anicca (Sanskrit anitya) "inconstancy" or "impermanence"...
The Democrats must love the Tea Party. There is much disgust and dismay at the zealousness of the movement right now. To many potential Democrat voters the Tea Party represents a freakish concentration of radical far-right hysteria, ignorance, misinformation and prejudice that has been gathered...
"And when you read about America in European newspapers, what you are likely to find is a tone bordering on pity. The U.S. is depicted as a fraying empire of obesity, ignorance, debt, gridlock, stagnation, and mindless war. Sure, the iPad is cool, but it is evidence of what America was, not what...
St. Francis is attributed with saying, "Always preach the gospel, if necessary even use words".
Assuming that Spirit, by whatever name/metaphor, exists, if we didn't and couldn't speak about it would we be able to communicate an understanding of it through some other way?
Putting it another...
What would you imagine a society be like if people, including yourself, could live out the religious (or non-religious) ideals & qualities you find inspiration in? Not necessarily those typical of your religion (or non-sectarian outlook), the ideals & qualities you personally find inspiration...
...and that wacky credit crunch thing happened? Apparently August the 9th 2007 was the official start of it. To celebrate I thought it would be nice if there was be a thread to remember the important lessons learnt and how things have since changed for the better.

Why do people think & talk of religions as if they are coherent and unchangeable wholes? They quite obviously aren't. Even using scripture as some supposedly unchanging basis for beliefs, religious beliefs vary wildly from one sect to another.
People identify as Christian, Muslim, nonreligious...
The chief drugs advisor for the UK government has been sacked!
It seems making public statements drawing on facts conflicts with the clear message the government wanted to convey. It creates "confusion between scientific advice and policy".

There are beliefs, important rites of passge, underlying ways of thinking and doing, presecribed lifestyles, particular forms of clothing, etc. - all associated with Buddhism. What, to you, distinguishes what is central to Buddhism from what is non-essential?

Any comments on the text below?
"If science proves some belief of Buddhism wrong, then Buddhism will have to change. In my view, science and Buddhism share a search for the truth and for understanding reality. By learning from science about aspects of...

For atheists only or those who are just wearing their atheist hat today:-
Could you see any use in prayer feeling that no god is there to listen?
To open the question further, if there are no supernatural causes, what traditional religious practices would still serve a useful purpose?
Today I read an entry from Jim Kunstler, a doomer who wrote one of the most popular books on Peak Oil and thought it might be interesting for people here:-
What Next?
Isn't that a question, though....
The Peak Oil story was never about running out of oil. It was about the collapse of complex...
