    I often look at particular English expressions and realise just how confusing they could be. I learned some French in school as a teenager . I wish I knew more Fre nch. Your English is very good btw.

    I read - and find myself in - lots of threads where there are quite different interpretations of the same words and phrases. Particularly phrases. Add some subtle irony, or the verbal equivalent of 'raising your eyebrows', and it is easier than slipping off a greased log to have misunderstanding.

    I've been off for a while; we had a death in the family after a long illness, so my attention was on spending time with the now deceased and family. My dear father-in-law passed away last week. He will be missed; he lived with our family for nearly two decades.

    I try to be realistic and not too one-sided. I was one of the people who ask for (demand really :) )more Muslim condemnation and/or action against Islamist militants... so it was good to find and right to post what I did find.
