My personal definition of Truth:
Truth is of the heart. It's not about mere fact. Truth is every virtue, and there is about a hundred that I can name. All based on heart intentions.
So when Shakespeare says,' to thine own self be true', the statement means to me to be upright and honest with one's self and others as they deserve. Faithful and loyal to the ideals.
Nowadays, the word truth comes to only mean hard fact.
Human reality may be indifferent to truth, but virtue is life itself, life's purpose, life's goal, and the joy and peace of living. To have a heart that longs for what is true.
If it were a needle in an endless pile of haystacks. To find it only with your bare hands is true peace.
And all the contrary or indifferent things to leave behind.
