I's have to disagree with most of what you mentioned above. There is a literal "hell" and it does mean eternal seperation from the presence of God and His Christ. As far as the doctrine of "soul sleep" you mentioned above, also citing Ecc., if you turn to James 2:26 you'll see that it is the body that dies because God has condemned sin in the flesh (Rom 8:3). The bible stated that "to be absent from the flesh is to be present with the Lord (2 Cor 5:8). In the Nt you'll find that the words "soul" and "spirit" are often used interchangably. Spirit, soul and body is a wonder study to look into! Some feel that "hell" is a temporary place, saying that hell will be cast into the Lake of Fire at the final judgment (Rev 20:14)
