    I believe the thinking in that quote means that polytheism accepts all gods as "true," even if individuals believe in only one of them. At least that is how I live my life. As a polytheist, I may worship gods X, Y, and Z, but I believe gods A through W exist, I just don't worship them. If you only worship god S, I'm okay with that.

    What you and Margot Adler are describing is more accurately called 'henotheism'. Monotheism actively rejects the idea other gods exist.

    I think it is the opposite for the polytheist. It's not that the monotheist worships one god but allows for all, but that the polytheist believes in all and accepts that "you" worship only one.
