yes, he is saying that the hijab doesn't preserve modesty, and i agreed with him. i've seen women wearing hijab that act far less modest than women without it. nothing is a guarantee just because one dons a hijab. modesty comes from within as well.

Its very kind of you to say so, I left and then after a while I felt like I still had stuffs to add to this forum even though my knowledge is lacking, so Ill be here trying to add stuffs that I know here and there until Ramadan is here then I'll try to focus on worship if Allah helps me and guide me to that, ameeen ( make prayers for me )

Beside Yusuf Ali, I also use Marmaduke Pickthal and Shakir because they are considered to be orthodox Muslims. These translations can be found online at USC's websute for Muslim-Jewish engagement.

I think there is a difference in translations. I dont know Arabic, so I dont know which one is more appropriate. But nothing in my post changes with either translation. My point is that the Quran permitted polygamy in those existing circumstances and those circumstances not prevailing anymore, polygamy should no longer be treated as sanctioned. The egalitarian spirit of Islam, coupled with its natural justice as existing in today's society doesntjustify polygamy.

Also note that scholars such as Muhammad Abduh have also given arguments such that polygamy demands justice(4:3) which isnt possible by 4:129, and hence it shouldnt be allowed.

By institutionalized hierarchies I mean the setup which does not allow for real ijma, and religious leaders get to decide on their own.

hi...it means that I reject institutionalized hierarchies in Islam that have crept in. Although I accept most of Sharia I reject some concepts such as polygamy as against its principles.
