Well that rules you out then.

    What's wrong with "cherry picking?"

I see nothing wrong with cherry-picking. No single religion has a monopoly on ethical goodness and those that preach "it's their way or be damned" are just divisive.

What constitutes proof? The snowflake test.

Not sure what happened there but my post was... That definition was probably written by a Christian. Atheists don't believe that gods exist; plural, you see and not singular.

What constitutes proof? The snowflake test.

Perhaps the universe was created by millions of gods. Why should there be just the one?

Your colonic squirts of scripture lose their meaning when you take them out of their context.

What constitutes proof? The snowflake test.

Not much, now that I realise the consistency you referred to was in fact constant inconsistency.

What constitutes proof? The snowflake test.

Yes and scientific predictions can be considerably more accurate than the vague generalities that so many people pass off as divine revelation.

What constitutes proof? The snowflake test.

Another interesting post - thank you. Maybe I'm being over-simplistic but what you're saying is that fields of study, rather than specific theories, represent our best possible explanations?

What constitutes proof? The snowflake test.

Are believers ever observationally consistent? Do believers apply the same standards of consistency to other beliefs as they do to their own?

    humans evolving from monkeys

Absolutely. The only people who continually labour that false argument are the creationists. After all, why should they listen to what science has to say when they have magic?

What constitutes proof? The snowflake test.

A detailed and comprehensive post - thanks. Would you agree that, whatever the category, a theory still represents our best explanation for something?
  14. Khatru

What constitutes proof? The snowflake test.

Yes indeed. Although "failed hypotheses" seems as good a way as any to describe the hundreds, maybe thousands, of gods that people have claimed existed.
  15. Khatru

What constitutes proof? The snowflake test.

Agreed We have our hypotheses but our best explanations are as set out in our theories. We can explain certain aspects of our universe with those theories. Gods and goddesses remain in the realm of the imagined.

I'd prefer it if you explained why you feel the need to make a strawman assertion to try and make a point.

You're so wrapped up in your ju-ju that you not only don't know what you're talking about but you also don't know who you're talking to.
