    Bhedabheda

Can someone recommend me some good introductory books, articles or videos on Bhaskara's bhedabheda philosophy?

Advaita : Is there a contradiction in Vivarna's views on the Realization of Self?

@Viswa ... Thanks for the answer. My original post was about Bhamati and Vivarna sub-schools of advaita. I wanted to know whether there are any contradictions in the views of Vivarna (in the passages that i've quoted above). In my OP, one of the passages says that as per vivarna, scriptural...

    The good old days.

While growing up in the 90s, me and a friend of mine, used to enjoy doing this...

Advaita : Is there a contradiction in Vivarna's views on the Realization of Self?

How is advaita meditation, different than Patanjali's meditation techniques or Lahiri Mahasaya's kriya/kundalini meditation techniques?

    Self-Realization

So, the term 'realization' in the school of Advaita is a completely intellectual thing then. Thanks for this information. And this same term 'realization' in schools of yoga and even in the ramakrishna society, means a totally different thing. A deep mystical experience in samadhi. If only the...

Advaita : Is there a contradiction in Vivarna's views on the Realization of Self?

Does mindfulness or satipatthana involve any meditative practices, like sitting posture, certain types of breathing, mantras or concentrating on an object?

Advaita : Is there a contradiction in Vivarna's views on the Realization of Self?

What i've come to know recently is that, for advaitins (who follow the path of knowledge) reading scriptures and reflecting on them intellectually is all that is needed to be done in their spiritual path. To me, that's being halfway up the ladder. I think from here on, other paths like yoga...

Advaita : Is there a contradiction in Vivarna's views on the Realization of Self?

In one advaita book, the author had to say that nididhyasana (repetition of mahavakyas) leads to intuitive knowledge or samadhi. I don't know if samadhi is even possible from mere repetition.
  9. The Crimson Universe

Advaita : Is there a contradiction in Vivarna's views on the Realization of Self?

@Martin, Yes. Some advaitins though practice both the intellectual pondering/repetition and also the dhyana/meditation that leads to nirvikalpa samadhi. Not sure whether these advaitins (who practice both the methods) follow the traditional Shankara's advaita. As far as i know, traditional...

Advaita : Is there a contradiction in Vivarna's views on the Realization of Self?

Here's an excerpt from a book (title and author's name at the end of the post) which points out the differences in the views of the two sub-schools of advaita, namely bhamati and vivarna, whether scriptural knowledge is sufficient for the realization of Brahman or something more is needed. It...

    Self-Realization

@shivsomashekhar I haven't gone through any traditional advaita texts with the original sanskrit words yet. My limited knowledge on advaita comes mostly from online articles, videos and discussions. EDIT : Wish i could read the mandukya now, but my current health conditions probably won't let...

    On the nature of auspiciousness...

Its nice to hear all the words of wisdom from these masters but instead of just throwing these big grand statements at us and expecting us to follow them no matter what the mental, emotional or physical situation is in our lives, it would be better if these enlightened masters once walk in our...

    Self-Realization

What about the mind? When it becomes mute in samadhi, does it (according to your opinion), registers the experience?

If I Could Change The World

No diseases, No wars, and a money free society (which means no greed, crime or poverty). I don't know if the last one's possible but in one sci-fi movie The Host (2013) such an idea was promoted.
