What a coincidence - I just posted a thread along this line of thinking..."Do our moral obligations only extend to our country's borders". I look forward to checking out the writings and interviews referenced in this thread.....
We are all human beings sharing this planet, and yet it seems the basic needs and civil rights of people outside of one's country don't really matter that much.
For example, here in the United States we have extreme wealth. We hog a lot of the oil from all over the world to fuel our economy...
I agree. It's so frustrating when this stuff happens because it actually hurts the cause and the people who are fighting for it in a peaceful way. Hopefully these kind of incidents will not be used to help justify prop 8.
I AGREE. But unfortunately, money talks. As we have seen, if an organization - religious or otherwise - has enough money, resources and lobbyists - they can affect legislation. It's money that rules I'm afraid.
This is a horrible and ignorant statement. Who is "they"? A few angry protesters? Are you aware of all of the hate crimes and murders there have been against gays? I can cite some examples if you like.
With all due respect Rolling Stone, I feel your position is that of complete ignorance...
Hi again Rolling Stone. I really appreciate the fact that you responded to me despite all of the abuse you have gotten on this thread. Thanks. :)
Thank you for recognizing this.
I'm not sure I understand you here. Perhaps you could clarify. Your argument is that gay marriage is wrong...
You are certainly free to believe what you want about gay marriage, but why should the country write legislation based on your religious beliefs? You can't expect the general public to trust a living prophet in a church that didn't allow African-Americans in the clergy until nearly 1980. They...
Then I think you may have misunderstood my intent. I am concerned about the whole. I'm just interested in your individual opinion on why sanctioning gay marriage will be a detriment to the whole of society now or in the future. That is a strong claim, so I was just hoping you could back it up...
Yes - and it is interesting that Weber and Rice were able to put together a show about Jesus that everyone was able to relate to - religious or not. It seems like both Christians and non-Christians are able to take away something meaningful and positive from it. That is pretty impressive to me...
Rolling Stone, I am not dismissing what you say since you haven't really said anything. You have not addressed any of my questions and seem to have no interest in addressing them, so forget it. The post above has nothing to do with my previous post addressed to you. I am not familiar with those...
You know, when I heard this music as a young teen,I guess I didn't really pay attention much to the lyrics. I liked it; it sounded like a rock-n-roll song of praise.
But recently, in my adult life, as an agnostic - I saw a live production of the show and the song touched me in a different way...
I agree that vandalism is wrong. But it's terribly insulting to compare this to the KKK. The KKK is not an organization fighting for their civil rights. They are an organization that has a history of performing hate crimes against African Americans.
So Rolling Stone - you have admitted that you don't know what the "ramifications" to society will be. You have yet to provide even one example of how allowing gays to marry will negatively affect anyone. It just doesn't feel right to you.
Even with that said, do you still think it was a good...
I knew you weren't saying that:) We are in agreement on this. Being part of a community is important I think. I have been able to find it outside the church, but church certainly can and does provide that for many people. In fact, I have been considering attending a UU church near me for the...
Honestly, I would not be bothered by either one that much. They are both peaceful ways to excercise freedom of speech. At most, I would probably laugh and roll my eyes at it.
