    Just what is this?

I really hope I'm wrong, but to me it seems you may very well have a Tree of Heaven: PCA Alien Plant Working Group - Tree-of-Heaven (Ailanthus altissima) :sorry1: Some idiot thought they'd feed silkworms with it; it didn't work, and they proceeded to try to take over the entire continent...

Victim of acid attack wants her attacker blinded

Me too. The filmmaking on this was really effective - starting out with his message on her machine, telling her she 'doesn't understand what he's going through' and that he only did it so he could be with her because he loves her soooo much.... really set the tone for me. Yeah...

Well, you know there's a bonfire and a horn of mead waitin' for you! [Actually, I still have to order the horn, but you know what I mean :o]

That photo was taken in Heritage Grove, very near Portola State Forest. It's 15 miles from Palo Alto, which is about 30 miles south of San Francisco. It really is one of the most beautiful places on earth! :cloud9:

Thank you, O Lovely One. ;) These trees go beyond all my expectations; they really have to be seen (and smelled, and sat under) to be believed!

Victim of acid attack wants her attacker blinded

According to the last part of the second video, acid-throwing has dropped to an all-time low since this case went public. Acid-throwing has been around for a long time, as was pointed out on the thread, I believe; so what's different? The threat of retribution. Here you have a criminal who...

Monogamy in Humans: Natural or Not?

Thank you for this excellent explanation of your problem with the terms 'natural' and 'unnatural'. I agree that they're used to denote moral approval, which is not the intended meaning, and as I said above, language evolves too - so maybe we need a new term. I completely agree with you...

Monogamy in Humans: Natural or Not?

I respect your issues with the article in the OP; I agree it's not the pinnacle of scientific knowledge, and rather typical of mass-media scientific journalism. However, I think that once you accept that's what it is, it does a pretty good job of making a point. We'll just have to disagree on...

    Worshipping/Revering Gods/Goddesses from different pantheons

LOL :p - with that out of the way *ahem*: Taranis and I had an Unfortunate Incident somewhere in the mists of time. More on that some other time... I also dislike him intensely because of his character; he's way too tyrannical and pushy for my taste. The one time I interacted with him in this...

Monogamy in Humans: Natural or Not?

Actually, as I understand it, antisocial behavior within the family/tribe/clan has always been atypical, and is *not* natural. Herd instinct and self-preservation are natural, and led in the past to ostracizing and punishing violent, destructive members of a society - at least when they acted...

Monogamy in Humans: Natural or Not?

I take your point that 'natural' may be understood in different ways, and hence may become an unhelpful descriptive unless it is defined from the outset. But assuming I use 'natural' in its literal sense in English [adjective 1. existing in or formed by nature ( opposed to artificial): a...

    Pagan Burial?

I completely agree with what many people have already said. For me, it would be hypocritical not to recycle my body completely: I'm an organ donor, and I prefer sky burial (leave me out under the eye of the sun and moon, and let the crows etc. have the eyes and all the other yummy bits...

    is god...

As I see it, yes. The incredible diversity of interpretation is proof that their subjective bases continue to this day; the intrafaith arguments - which among Abrahamics are often of legendary ferocity - only happen because of the inherent exclusivity of many Abrahamic views.

    is god...

*Ahem* - on behalf of the many wise trees out there, I'd like to object. They understand us just fine; it is we who do not understand them. :rainbow1:
