10 Lies about Islam?

I just came across this website http://www.thereligionofpeace.com/

The menu bar has a whole bunch of drop down menus that list lots of myths about Islam. Such as 10 reasons why Islam is not a religion of peace, Myths of Islam, Myths of Muhammad, and 10 reasons why the Quran is not from Allah.

I found the list disappointing. It actually made me more worried about Islam.

Several of the items end up nit-picking particularly extreme misrepresentations and almost seem to make a point of misrepresenting matters even worse in the opposite direction.

Reassuring, it is not.

I think that the serious issue here is why these lies were propgagated in the first place. It's as if certain parties want the West to hate Islam.
Pursuing an external enemy is a traditional, incredibly widespread technique for consolidating political power. But this specific list is worrisome in that it manages to misrepresent even wacko perspectives.

Personally, I side with guys like Hitchens and Dawkins. Not all religions are equal, and some, like Islam, are evil.

In my opinion, there's no need to "defend" Islam anymore than there is a need to defend a political party you hate. Nobody in our society is forced to be a liberal or a conservative or a Muslim or a Nazi.

You may not feel the need to defend Islam, but I do. Islam is not evil, I think that that video explains why. It is those who claim to be muslim who are evil, I seriously doubt that God agrees with their actions. Please do not defame an entire religion based on the actions of some deluded individuals.

Islam has dozens, if not hundreds, of different scholarly schools, sects, cultural variants and historical strands. Trying to lump them all in together is a ridiculous thing to do, and a dishonest one at that.

Also, and you've likely heard this one before, Muslims are people like anyone else, and with it they're capable of doing things that are grossly UN-Islamic or otherwise not representative of what Islam actually teaches.

Between the 7th and 11th centuries, Muslims attacked Europe and enslaved over one million Europeans.

How is jihad not part of Islam? And why do you think all religions are equal? And wouldn't the world be peaceful without Islam? The "extremists" are the ones following Islam to its fullest.

But Islam DOES teach violence. Have you read the Quran? I have and there are many violent passages. Did you know that Mohammed condoned beheading "unrepentant" people (ie, people who refused to convert)?

The point is is that the "extremists" are simply the ones who follow Islam in all its glory.

Religions are not equal; some are more violent than others.

Simple.

Regarding the various groups in Islam: So what? The world of racism is extremely nuanced, as well. There are some white racists who hate non-whites, and there are some who see all people as equal but just want segregation. There are those who paint graffiti on synagogues and those who condemn such acts.

But isn't all racism wrong?

Millions of blacks were enslaved by Christians who quoted the Bible to prove that slavery was by God's will. And the Crusades were Christian attacks on the middle-east due to Christianity. "The extremists were the ones following [Christianity] to its fullest."

And by that same logic, Communist atheists who murdered millions were following atheism to its fullest.

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
There is also something called Taqiyya in Islam. It begs the question as to whom do you trust?

"Taqiyya holds a central place in Twelver Shia Islam. This is sometimes explained by the minority position Shias had under the political dominance of Sunni Muslims, requiring them to protect themselves through concealment and dissimulation."

Jesus never advocated slavery, and the Pope excommunicated anyone who bought slaves.

Mohammed, on the other hand, embraced slavery.

Not all religions are equal. :)

Am I talking to a person or a random internet link? I get the feeling you're one of those people who just copy/pastes links when you have nothing to say.

Anyway, that page uses a lot of sophistry to make a false argument. Jesus didn't condone slavery, nor did Paul in his epistle when he talked about slaves and masters. It's sort of like saying, "Jesus hung out with hookers and tax collectors; therefore, he condoned prostitution and stealing money."

Evolution is true. The earth orbits the sun. Jesus didn't condone slavery and Mohammed did.

Facts > Falsehoods.

That page said everything I would have written much better than I could. But another point, The Pope and slavery, the wikipedia page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catholic_Church_and_slavery lists how the Catholic church dealt with slavery and it's not as you wrote.
