100 seconds of meditation

I marked it a winner, but it's also funny and very true. I fight with myself to not look at the bookcase and start thinking about what books I don't want any more, noticing the dust in the room, thinking about the bills I need to pay etc.

It's helpful to me to have a sense of humor about the difficulties involved.

Hope you're all well ...

This kinda amused me so I thought I would share it -

All the best!

:)
That was very cute although I sort of watched it like a visiting alien as I have not encountered anything like this getting into a meditation in living memory... Even as a novice, I never had any difficulty slipping into the zone, as it were.

I found the highlighted part to be genuinely fascinating, and as in the video, I can't even imagine what that must be like. I'm always utterly calm, totally focused and am simply not sidetracked by the ongoing thought process. Try pulling back from your thoughts... and look at them from arm's length and then, further and further, till they are just faded ripples on the background.

I suppose the trick is to be, here, now, at any point in the process.

True, but my mind is like the classic monkey, hopping from thing to thing. That was a very useful trait during my career but is not conducive to focused meditation.

Ah yes! The "Zone" - I used to experience that playing tennis or squash - you see the ball almost in slow-motion and it is completely effortless.

Kinda makes you want to be in that state of consciousness all-the-time!

Cute video. Not a far cry from how my afternoon meditation went today.

I decided to go to the lake today to meditate at the beach. I figured since it was a breezy 50ish degree day, there would be very few people around. When I got to there, I saw I was right. I saw a few people about 50 yards down the beach, a few collecting shells, and another wading in with a metal detector.

I sat down on the breakwall thinking I would have a quiet peaceful meditation with the waves rolling in and crashing on the breakwall and the beach. As I settled in, I began to hear several adult's and children's voices behind me, a bit loud at first, but then speaking in hushed tones. I wasn't focused on exactly what they were saying, but they lingered for what seemed to be quite some time before the voices finally subsided.

I'm not sure if they were watching me or just going about their activities, but that may be the first time I meditated with an audience.
