Got as far as number three. My wife's parents were both ****s. He was violent. Worthy of no respect.
They certainly aren't perfect commandments. None ever are. But I think respect doesn't necessarily mean you like their actions.

Maybe better to say respect the job your parents attempted (even if they failed miserably).

Respect the title, not the person?

Those are general rules basically reflecting the right order of things. It is right to respect your parents. However, obviously many people have horrible parents who have failed in their duties. That itself is an upending of the natural order of things. And don't get me started on horrible parents and family because I wish death on multiple relatives, especially my violent sociopathic deadbeat sperm donor.
