2012: What are your thoughts?

Smoke

In order to even believe in rapture you would have to believe in christ.
I don't, of course. But I didn't believe in the Rapture when I was a Christian, either. It's not a traditional Christian teaching; it was dreamed up by Dispensationalist sectarians less than 200 years ago.

I have been hearing and seeing much talk and discussion about 2012 and what is to happen. I for one have no idea but would like to believe that there is some great change that is coming.

Do i think the apocalypse is coming? Maybe
Could it be World War 3? Maybe
It could be a number of things we will have to wait to find out.

I have just found it very fascinating that many cultures throughout history have all made reference to this point in time as being significant of great changes.

This thread is not intended to disprove anyone or offend anyone but rather I am interested in hearing what people have to say on the topic.
The world will not make it to 2012.

I`m pretty sure the Cherokee didn`t even have a calender.
They had a yearly cycle based on the moon, but as far as the kind of calendar you'd need to make predictions about a certain year, I've never heard of one. And they didn't have their own writing system before they were Christianized, either.

maybe 2012 will just another crushing blow to people who believe the rapture will ever come. Just in case anyone thinks anything is going to happen though, remember y2k? That was the end of the world too.

There's only a couple of years left to capitalize on this nonsense and make some money.

That's the only thought I have at this moment on the subject.

I was thinking of stocking up on cheap trinkets from Guatemala so I can hawk them off on EBay as magical artifacts.

2012 will come and go and another date will be decided on based on a convoluted interpretation of finding whatever numbers fit their preconceptions in the Bible or some other religious text. Not unlike the tortured manipulations the Bible code crowd managed to make up. Some vague passage from Nostradamus, an odd celestial event, or maybe the 2012ites will decide they forgot to carry the one or something and the date is actually 2040 or whatever.

A failed prediction for the end of the world or Jesus' second coming never stopped the faithful from forging along. I'm looking at you Charles Russell and 1914, 1918, 1920, 1925, 1941, 1975, and 1994.

Greeting's,

Perhaps we may yet admit that the current & growing preoccupation with the Dec. 21, 2012 prediction advanced via so many ancient cultures are: Intriguing and most provacative in the least case......................

Without doubt there is much we cannot fathom regarding the ancient prophecies, especially 2012 and it's most ominious "End Of Days" scenario.

And yet we may deduce from some information regarding reports that some of our leading Astronomers have confirmed... a most unusual planetary allignment on Dec. 21, 2012 that in theory could cause a dynamic and perhaps most significant cosmic event and may well generate devastation beyond our comprehension !!!

Friends, the ancient 2012 prediction may well deserve our close attention as it continues to develop in the scientific and prophetic spheres..... Something may well be afoot at this particular time in our history as many of you have sincerely suggested in this most provacative forum..... A continuation of our keen interest
regarding this prediction may be most wise............

Thank You M/S1

One other comment, is 2012 rhethoric is possibly a diversion to the actual event, so that those who might consider any of it to be legit, or worth looking into, will probably be drawn to the more fantastic alure of 2012, instead of May 21st 2011.

Could be a ploy by Satan to try one last chance to frustrate God's plan.

It is a good plan to over shoot the date, so that people are really not ready. Kind of like the movie Die Hard when the terrorist took over air traffic control and changed the elevations so when a plane tried to land it crashed because it hit the ground thinking they were higher than they actually were.

But there simply isn't any unusual astronomical alignment on that date at all. Even if there were some alignment, there's nothing to be concerned about. The planets were closely aligned on 5/5/2000 (remember the "Jupiter Effect"?) and nothing happened. An alignment between the sun and any point in the galaxy will have zero effect on our little planet. None. And this is assuming one could reasonably calculate any galactic center with which to draw the conclusion there will be any alignment.

Come on, Nepenthe, let's not get facts in the way of hysterical doomsday prophecies.

Can't brain. Has dumb.
How come nobody ever says "The world is ending...tomorrow!"?

Because tomorrow is wednesday. And Wednesday is hump day - the day you need to feel positive about stuff because it's the middle of the week. No-one wants to feel bad on hump day, so it can't be tomorrow. Perhaps Thursday though - it was mentioned in Hitch-hiker's Guide.

Some people would not be able to recognize a scam if their lives depended on it.

Also some people consider different things scams.
Some call this 2012 talk a scam.
Some call religion a scam.

Yet millions believe in both. (Don't know how many believe in each one but the fact remains that some people choose to believe in religion some choose to believe in 2012 talk or maybe both)

Millions of people thought the world was flat.
Millions of people thought tomatoes were poisonous
Millions of people thought the world was going to end year 2000.

As you can see, the whole "millions of people believe" does not help your argument.
