40 years ago today - a giant leap

I remember watching coverage of the moon landing, but I was too young to grasp the significance. What an amazing achievement!

*is jealous*

My dad used to tell me stories about it. What really amazes me, though, is how so many of us (myself somewhat included) take it for granted.

I wasn't alive back then. In fact, both of my parents were less than a year old 40 years ago today... I wish I could have seen it for the first time on the news. That would have been cool. As for whether or not it was faked, I think there is no way of knowing unless you were either on the moon, or fabricating being on the moon. Do I believe it happend? Hmmm... Maybe. I wasn't there.

Because there is tons of evidence for evolution but only an old video of the first walk on the moon. How can you know that video isn't fake? By watching movies, I know that really cool things can be faked on video so that they look real even though they aren't, so logically, I can say that the moon video could possibly be fake.

I wouldn't think someone who thinks the moon landing was fake was stupid or crazy. They have good reason to doubt it.

I remember it well,it was an amazing achievement.
Same here. I remember watching all the space shots live, as much as I could, usually with Walter Cronkite at the helm too. Mercury, Gemini, Apollo. *sighs*

Even at 13 I grasped the significance of what had happened, of seeing the results of JFK's speech years before. It really wasn't just the Americans who landed on the moon, but rather, humanity had stood on another surface for the first time. I don't even think the eventual Mars landing will top it.

I wasn't alive back then, but I've heard stories. It must have been great that our nation was unified by something that wasn't a disaster.

As for it being faked, I'm sure if it would have been aired from an earth-based source, the Russians would have discovered it, and would have been quick to announce it to the world.

Eh, we'd have a good reason to fake it if you believe that our government would want to scare the Commies, but nah, it probably happened.
