"At sixes and sevens" is an expression designating a state of conflict. The number seven being barely dominant over six. It is noted somewhere that the Mater Ecclesiae monastery where the retired Pope expects to reside is the dwelling place of seven nuns, so we might conclude that the seven thunders represent the authoritive position in the account of Revelation.

In verse six and seven an angel declares: "..that there should be time no longer: 7 But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished.." which echoes Daniel 12:4 "..4 But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end.."

This is probably an inadequate attempt of disambiguation.

It is possible that the 7 thunders are the 7 spirits of God which are represented by the 7 candles of the Golden Menorah (or "candlestick") in the Tabernacle/Temple. Isa 11:1-2 says those 7 spirits are: the Spirit of the Lord, the Spirit of Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel, Might, Knowledge and the Fear of the Lord. It is because Messiah has all 7 Spirits within Him that He is able to judge like no man judges, by balancing mercy and justice perfectly.

If those “7 thunders” are the 7 Spirits of God, would you agree how fitting it is to hear the One True Judge speaking with all 7 Spirits during…. His Judgment?

The entire book of Revelation is loaded with Menorahs (seen as groups of 7’s) and is a fascinating study in of itself. Notice in Rev 1:12-13 we see 7 Menorahs and Messiah is standing right in the middle of them.

Hope this helps!
