9/11 Sufferers.

I know that the families of the victims from 9/11 are suffering.
I was watching the news the other day, (I hardly ever watch the news but sometimes I have this feeling) and they were talking about businesses in New York struggling. The businesses that used to bloom before 9/11 occured. Owners are loosing money. Businesses are starting to crumble. Owners don't know what to do anymore. Businesses that have been there for years are starting to deteriorate.

Should they get compensated for their loss also? Should the government pay them for their losses due to 9/11?

Seeing as the government failed to take action to prevent 9/11 then yes, the businesses suffering as a result of that failure should be compensated.

If their suffering is definitely a result of 9/11, then yes, they should be compensated. However, the economy is not good right now, and many businesses around the US are suffering, so who knows if it's related to 9/11 or just a sluggish economy.

I wish I would have seen the story. I probably would have a better answer ;).

How are businesses suffering as a result of what happened ?

These businesses use to have people come in all the time. Businesses that were close to the twin towers. Since 9/11, businesses either had to close down or they had to relocate. They had on the news one time about a pizza place that had been there for years. He used to have people come in that were regulars. Since 9/11, he has been struggling. No people, no money. No money, no business. I am not sure what has happend to his business, but it was not doing so well.

It's sad that businesses aren't doing well without the Twin Towers, but why is it the government's job to compensate for things like this? Should we take away money from the Katrina Fund and give it to struggling Pizza Shop owners? There are hundreds of businesses struggling in California right now because of the housing market. Is it the government's responsibility to make life easier for them too?

Business is business. This is how things have always been, there are ups and there are downs. Keep the government OUT of it! I don't want Big Brother taking care of me. (People forget that that is the REAL Big Brother from 1984, one that makes us feel secure and complacent).

That sucks... But I believe in another thread someone wrote something about people needing to suck it up when life is unfair to them. If the government paid them, there would be tons of other people who could somehow link financial loss to this incident, and they would need to get paid for their losses as well... The government cannot make everyone happy...

Why is it the governments job to give money to people that don't want to work because they are lazy? I have met several people that are milking the government because they don't want to work at all. Example welfare and disability. I am not one of those that want the government to pay my way. I want to work for my money but that's another topic I am not going into. But it's just an example that the government pays and uses the money that they take out of our paychecks. Come to think of it. We are the ones that are paying :sarcastic.

Should we take it out of the Tsunami fund and give it to the Pizza owners? Is there even a Tsunami fund? What ever happend to that incident? Off topic sorry.

The government should make ALL our lives easier but then again, that's the government for ya.

I agree with the business is business. I use to run a store for many years in a small town and we struggled. I ran it from opening to closing 7 days a week and not got paid for it (10-9 or 10-11pm) Only closed 2 holidays a year. It was rough, but business was business. We had to shut down because it wasn't going so well. We didn't ask the government for any money. We just put things on the credit cards. We paid it back.:D

Thank you for responding to this post.

Done here.

Fifty thousand people worked at the World Trade Center, and another 200,000 passed through there every day, including tourists, shoppers, and commuters. Numerous other buildings nearby were rendered unsafe and their tenants had to move their offices. The daily foot traffic lost to businesses in Tribeca was probably equal to the population of Cincinnati. Granted, some of that traffic has returned, but it's still a huge drop.

I think it would be good to subsidize local businesses at least until the new WTC complex is completed.

Military bases get closed. Local businesses that thrived off the presence of the base often shut down and people lose their jobs. As a direct result of the federal government. And those businesses should not be subsidized by the government. It would defeat the entire purpose of closing military bases to cut the budget.

However, I can see the logic in supporting those businesses that have a reasonable expectation of continued revenue with the rebuilding of the WTC. But only with definite guideline that once a clear determination has been made that restoration is complete the subsidies end.

I would have no problem fully supporting such action if they took the money from existing funds. Such as those for the DEA or farm subsidies. In general, I'm not fond of such practices.
