A Case of Hypocrisy and Racism?

Regardless of one's partisan affiliation, using desperate immigrants as pawns in a political chess game is a reprehensibly low point to which American politics has stooped. Everyone responsible for this status quo should consider recalibrating their moral compass.

It appears the migrants remain on Cape Cod
Baker, a moderate Republican, said transporting the migrants to Cape Cod was necessary because “the island communities are not equipped to provide sustainable accommodation, and state officials developed a plan to deliver a comprehensive humanitarian response.”

"The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) is coordinating efforts among state and local officials to ensure access to food, shelter and essential services for these men, women and children," the statement said. "Governor Charlie Baker also plans to activate up to 125 members of the Massachusetts National Guard as part of this relief effort."

The move to Cape Cod will be voluntary and transportation for those who want to move will be provided, the statement said.

"We are grateful to the providers, volunteers and local officials that stepped up on Martha's Vineyard over the past few days to provide immediate services to these individuals," Baker said. "Our Administration has been working across state government to develop a plan to ensure these individuals will have access to the services they need going forward, and Joint Base Cape Cod is well equipped to serve these needs."

Personally,
I really do not fault these governors giving other states a taste of their burden so close to the border.

What do you think?

I think this is a very complex situation. For me it brings up all sorts of ideas and questions. Forgive me, I'm NOT going to do a lot of dot connecting:

- I believe in economic systems that reward invention and to a lessor degree innovation
- I believe the 1%ers and super-rich need to pay lots of taxes because they make heavy use of "the commons"
- I believe our current income and wealth system is WAY out of balance

So in this situation, Desantis was wrong (doh!), this action amounts to an invasion and should not stand. That said, our current wealth and income system MUST be corrected, and real quick-like.

The sign includes mention of everyone possible except White Straight Male Americans. And somehow, I don't see that as just an accidental oversight.
They left out atheists too.
Perhaps I could be respected under the umbrella of "immigrants"?
(My people aren't aboriginals....just johnny-come-lately foreign mongrels.)

But, imo, there's a vast difference between asking and forcing without permission from the receiving state. I can't remember any other case where this was done.

True. OTOH did they give any permission for them. It is a major problem that neither Congress has dealt with through the years. And its not going away anytime soon, at least not in a positive solution.

The national guard are able to handle such a humanitarian crisis, similar to any other sort of humanitarian emergency that might occur.

An emergency, by the way, that republican politicians deliberately caused for the sake of a publicity stunt.

WOW!! :) What a hot topic and a hot response...

So let's look at what I said and what happened...

1) The millionaires did NOTHING!
2) The Christians came to the rescue at St. Anne's (bravo) - And so much for the previous thread that basically wanted to make fun of Christians
3) A BIG defense on why it was necessary to move them out of the Island and pass it on the someone else - like "that's OK" but when another state passes it on (because they can't handle all the cases, it isn't OK)
4) Zero grade on the responses of the reality of my post ie:

Martha's Vineyard: Belcastro added: ‘We certainly don’t have housing, we’re in a housing crisis on this island. We can’t house everyone who lives here and works here. We don’t have housing for 50 more people.’ - while there are plenty of Air BnB's et al

Washington D.C. Democrat Mayor Muriel Bowser complained Friday that the nation’s capital is not equipped for the influx of illegal immigrants being sent by red-state governors fed up with the porous Mexican border. (as if the red-states are equipped for millions)

The Federal Government sends people all over the US at night and not a peep - but it isn't ok that a Governor does the same and people go haywire.

Yes, people are important. it's the hypocrisy that I don't like.

150 for a 50 person "humanitarian emergency"? That means Texas need 10,000,000 people NOW! ;)

Thoughts?

Sure.
Can DeSantis be arrested and tried for this human trafficking?
When will he make a huge public apology, in his efforts to NOT go to prison?
Oh! Poor widdle baby DeSantis is fed up of receiving funds from the fed for properly handling asylum seekers? Awwwwwww. Maybe those bad Democratic people should try having immigrants housed in their own homes? Sure! But perhaps DeSantis has to show some guts, by taking in maybe just a few dozen first? o_O

Here’s his house….
mansion_at_night_banner_supergraphic.jpg

Florida’s governor’s mansion (a.k.a. The People’s House).

Since DeSantis-baby has taken in SO MANY, right along with all of his generous Christian neighbors , it must be so fwustwating for them to see rich northern elites not taking any into their houses.

Being on an island requires a lot of logistical support. But I'm sure you know better then the national guard how to handle humanitarian crisis, and how many people to send. And what all the legalities involved would be.

What do you think?

View attachment 66659

In 36 hours, about 150 National Guardsmen were summoned to remove from Martha's Vineyard refugees.

In a place of millionaires that can take care of 80,000 tourists, there was no place in the Inn for 50 Venezuelans. Those who espoused love and inclusion apparently were saying "Inclusion so long as I don't have to deal with it".

At least that is what it appears like to me.

Well, I don't think anyone really expected they would become permanent residents on Martha's Vineyard. I don't know what's going to happen, whether they'll be allowed to stay or offered a chance at citizenship, but if they are, then I guess they could move to Martha's Vineyard if they really wanted to live there.

In general, I kind of agree that these wealthy, limousine liberal types can be irritating and oftentimes come off as hypocritical.

I don't know that I would be so quick to brand them as "racists," unless they do or say something that's overtly racist. Sometimes, I think that word gets tossed around a bit too casually these days, especially from the right-wing where they try to justify by saying "well, they're doing it too." That seems to be a much-used talking point from the right, constantly accusing the left of being racist in order to dilute the accusations of racism coming from the left.

And I don't doubt that one could likely find plenty of examples of people who identify as liberal or leftist who don't practice what they preach. We could probably find a similar number of examples of conservatives or rightists who also don't practice what they preach.

I guess that makes them hypocrites, but I also look at the ideas themselves to decide whether I agree with them. I also recognize that there may be those who also claim to agree with a set of ideas, yet then do something different which might make them seem insincere or hypocritical.

Yes, it always worse for oneself in comparison to someone else.
