A conversation; Should Catholics be part of Elon Musk’s Twitter?

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
It felt like we won back a lot of sanity and some space for warmth and humor with the removal of Donald Trump from the site, and now it’s very possible that he and a number of other pretty ill-intentioned voices will be returning and doing a lot of scary and awful things. It looks like a return to a very sad state of affairs.

I’m not sure I totally buy into people’s fears that under its new ownership, Twitter is going to turn into some sort of hellscape where unpopular views are censored. Even besides this Twitter development, I think people of a certain persuasion tend to demonize Musk without knowing precisely why. I’m not a huge fan of the guy; he attracts a following that tends to idolize “science” as the answer to all the world’s unanswerable questions; he could spend his money on way more meaningful causes. But I don’t know if he is the incarnation of evil and greed we’re led to think.

If you don't like it, don't read their tweets.

Simple.

If you want only your own views and no one else's, buy Twitter out from Musk and you can censer to your hearts content.

I can't think of anything Musk has done or said that should lead to him being "demonized".
Really?

Stop. That is how it works. I don't want to play that game with you.
That's why I maintain all views must be shared and inclusive.

Because it's just that ridiculous to accept some , and willfully censor others from a public venue regardless weither something is true or not.

A privately owned platform is under no legal obligation to let anyone voice their views on it. They are also culpable if they allow people to express views that break the law, defamation for example. They are of course, legally entitled to censor users of their platform in any way they choose. Try phoning the Fox news network, and telling them you'd like a one hour prime time slot to promote left-wing socialist views, I'm guessing they'd "censor" you. ;)

...and it would be entirely legal as well.

Or pop around a few local churches and mosques, and tell them you'd like to address their congregations about atheism, and the lack of any objective evidence for any deity. Then tell them you think they're wrong to censor you. :D

Twitter ought not to have removed Trump.

I don't see any good reasons from the articles you linked that Catholics should or should not use twitter.

Do you know fascism is the merger of the government with corporations? Are you a fascist?

Well, I don't think that Twitter is merged with the government nor would I like it since I am a capitalist for that. But you don't seem to accept private ownership.

I just don't agree with the power establishment controlling speech and ultimately manipulating public perception with lies and con artistry.

It's a ridiculous leap to say that because I want to rein in over powerful corporations that I'm therefore a communist. Communists are masters of manipulation and propaganda. I hate that.

It seems to me that twitter is the one pushing their own form of corporate/governmental communism. So hopefully Elon Musk changes all that.

Leftist Catholics who support the abortion party and oppose religious liberty should consider why they want to call themselves Catholics.

No, that is not Catholic.

She is supporting the pro abortion, anti religioius freedom party.

Your understanding of religion is not the only one. To me to be pro abortion is a version of being religious and your anti-religious is to me pro religious. I guess we have different understandings of human worth.

It's not a matter of your opinion or mine.

The Catholic Church has clear teachings on moral issues.

If you reject these teachings, then why call yourself Catholic?

Do you understand my point?

It's like someone who claims to speak for a vegetarian group but at the same time publicly eats meat.

It is not that simple.
