A god comes to you, but looks like a different god?

Has anyone here who has called on gods had the experience of them coming, looking like a different god? Possibly even from a different pantheon?

Man, I don't know how I missed this thread before. Probably because my process for checking for new threads allows some to slip through the cracks. >_>

I can't say I've had that experience. Then again, I also don't call on historically recognized Pagan gods.

I think there are a few things going on here.

1) How well do you trust your own internal vision?
2) Do you believe in the concept of trickster spirits, and the possibility they may be ******* with you?

In my original coven Celtic deities would appear in really uhhh.. modern forms. So seeing the Dagda and Morrigan as kind of a "biker" couple, Lugh as a war veteran, and Gywdion surrounded by the magical implements of many different cultures was kind of par for the course. If gods are alive, then they continue to live. So they could be telling you something about their contemporary nature, or be something else ******* with you. If uncertain I suggest divination under the authority of a divinity you know and trust.

1) That depends. Sometimes I trust it and sometimes not. Generally, the more clearly I can see the spirit, the more I trust that I'm actually seeing it. The more faint, the less I'm sure.

2) Yeah, I've had my share of trickster spirits ******* with me. They're a lot of the reason I tend to take long breaks of not talking to spirits and all. I don't really know how to tell the difference between trickster and non, yet.

That said, he didn't come as anything modern. From what I've heard (if I can trust what I heard) who came visually was the Greek equivelent of the god I called. And whether I call him or he just...shows up........he looks like his Greek form. I just think it's a bit odd, because I never refer to him that way when I call him. And I can't even say that it's just a form that I'm more used to really, because I didn't know who he looked like until I saw a statue of him and recognised him. I think the only difference was the length of his hair and beard had changed.

I think he might have come in a dream to me once looking like he does from the pantheon I get his name from, although,...more like a talking drawing, but...outside of that......he's never looked like that. Weird.

Thanks for that suggestion. Divining under a known and trusted divinity.

Can't say that this has ever happened to me.

Grandfather Coyote has appeared to me several times and none of those times has he ever looked the same... but I always knew who he was.

I have never seen G-d....

Really have no idea how to work on here at all... not to mention, any time I use the computer it is a process of humiliation that I wish on no one....

My life has been one fight after another ( within my own family and what my family taught me a friend looked like..).

The idea's of this world, our world... have taken me to places of fear, of shame, of a pain I want no one to experience... and it is still happening to me daily... not as often... but still happening daily of one type or another... G-d is trying to get me to understand something but..

(my Mom wants me to run to UDF... yes, I live in my Mama's house because she has one and I do not... so she is asking me to hurry... that is difficult...)

We will probably end up going to Circle K but whatever....

She is driving and I am learning respect...

While being wordy, I guess... and without understanding of any of this...

I see the God of everything (a female God, I think) all the time, everywhere, in 'everything'. So I hope that I would have the guts to look towards her if she appeared in startling fashion.
But I have not seen the God of nothingness (a male God, possibly?) yet, as far as I know.

Fascinating; how did you get to see Grandfather Coyote? Dream, trance, meditational vision, something else? :)

Most of the above.

I've talked with Grandfather in dreams and visions and I've tangentially experienced his influence in moments of my day to day life.

Get me off of this planet
It's an experience that takes place in my mind/imagination and it started happened on it's own one day all
of a sudden. One moment I was fine then BAM!! My mind/imagination turned into a television, I realized
how little I used my imagination with video games and movies doing all the work as well. Figures,
Individuals come and go and it is like a congregation that takes place off and on, sometimes many are there
and sometimes it is just a few. On the Sabbath days, Friday, Saturday it seems to go away, and on Sunday
and Monday it is most intense. It's quite pleasant and does not interfere with my personal life at all.

It's not like hallucinations or anything bad, I find it quite pleasant now and these individuals seem
benevolent and even educational while it was something that refined my discipline somewhat.

They seem like the Gods, if you seen them I'm almost certain you could guess or 'know' which one was
which.

I'm American and these Gods seem 'American' speaking fluent English, a language that would be new to the
Gods and much of the World speaks it.

I think many, many people are like this and it is something that goes known but not really discussed.

They've been quite convincing over time, a few years now. They demand or ask for nothing and show me
flattering respect and they have entertained me often, absolutely hilarious. It's hard to go on about.

What I have learned it would outrage, even me and it regards Politics, religions and a bit about WW2. I am not totally
convinced on these views and not committing to them.

I was told Jesus Christ was the real Son of God as well.

That's pretty good. Not sure if it's Jesus but an excellent portrait of someone.
I can leave your investigations to that.

SMH*White people... Ya, Israeli's are pretty white.

That was inappropriate and sarcasm. I'm trying to get my sense of humor under control.

I haven't but I wouldn't recommend trying to associate with the Gods as if they're people
you could know. It's hardly ever been like that between a God and Human. The Gods
are only known for giving direction in some cases while it is clear in many stories the
association between God and Man is not a friendship, the Gods reign over Man making
choices, choices not all of Man agrees on. like politicians.

Even though one could be quite convinced the Gods still interact with Man their
part in politics is probably surprising.

Other than that searching through the legends of the Gods is a good start.

For instance, the Zeus, this may not be his actual name, or is, but like Deus which is
actually a younger iteration of the name, means God. I know it's supposedly Sumerian
in origin as well. Yet, I think there are various families of Gods not just one, like the
Olympians and Æsir, whom do not appear to be exclusive to one another, although
the Olympians may be Æsir immortals.

The Norse Sagas, the Edda's, are a collection of drama's and the Norse version of the
Bible, it's enlightening and suggest you give it a try. Scholars destroy it and say this was
an entire work of fiction made post-Christianity, which is somewhat true. The fables/legends
are ancient but the books were recorded post-Christianity, but before the Norse were
forced into Christianity. The Æsir are quite convincing.

There existence is refuted over their absence, while they continue to interact with various
people, in the mind it seems. As scholars continue to dismantle the Gods into metaphors
some are content with their existence and have been brought closure or remorse.

Making sure you're not totally delusional is recommended as well. This can end by
shattering your perception of the world but it is suggested.

This hasn't ever happened to me before.

I firmly believe that gods come to a person in whatever form they wish, physical or astral, in whatever race, ethnicity or even gender. Yahweh once came to me in a dream in the form of a short woman.

I also believe that all pantheons are different interpretations of the same group of deities, so the god known as Thunar may come to someone in the form of Bacchus or Hercules, or someone could see Amun coming to him or her in the form of Tyr or Zeus.

There is an Indian saying Jāki rahi bhāvanā jaisi prabhu mūrat dekhi tin taisi (I don't know if it's Hindi or Sanskrit). Roughly it means everyone sees God in his own way. I'd expand the idea to "everyone sees the gods in different ways at different times".

Indeed... I wear silver pendants of Thor and Hanuman. They represent protection, strength and courage; protection, strength and courage manifest to me as Thor, Hanuman, and two Taoist deities, Guan yu and Xuan wu. Redundant? Mm... maybe yes, maybe no. Slightly different attributes... the whole being greater than the sum of the parts.
