A moral dilemma

I thought I'd raise the question: is it morally right to allow a criminal whose dying stay prison? Or is it better to let them die in peace on the outside? I noticed some states are offering compassionate release to such folk. Is that a good thing in your opinion? Why or why not?

Depends on the reasons for compassiinate release, as well as the likelihood of the person offending if released. What are they imprisoned for? Does their Illness/dying status prevent the from reoffending? What is their physical and mental state?

So someone in my family is dying of cancer. He has a year and a half left to live. Someone accused him of watching child porn. So I reported it. My family except for my sister are mad at me. Said I shouldve let him die in peace. Which is more important? Me letting children be farther victimized by him watching that or me possibly getting justice for these kids? He did the crime. Should he not pay? But he's dying. I honestly didn't want to see him in prison. I actually ended up wanting to harm myself and almost asked the group home staff to take me to the ER cuz I didn't want to be responsible for a man dying of cancer going to prison. I didn't go to the ER and those thoughts of self harm have past but I thought I'd raise the question: is it morally right to allow a criminal whose dying go to prison? Or is it better to let them die in peace on the outside? I already made my choice so there's no point in worrying about it. Its outta my hands now. But I noticed some states are offering compassionate release to such folk. Is that a good thing in your opinion? Why or why not?

Note we are debating the bolded not whether or not I should've reported my grandfather that's outta my hands I am not interested in opinions. I only bring it up to preface the questions bolded

I was thinking if this could be in journal or some place similar without debate. I know it's the bold debated but I'm not sure how one would answer given the sensitivity attached.

I'll have a look see later but just thinking...

Those are good questions. So it's situationall in your opinion then?

I only put it in the debated section cuz I figured it'd turn into a debate. I wanted in discussions. thinking now thats a better place...

@staff: could it go in general discussions? I edited it to say discussing instead of debating

I think so. Which is why it takes a court system to decide typically.

Pretty much all things we judge, are situational. Hardly any other way to look at it.
Ok so what situations would you release someone?if you could answer that you might not be able to.

As someone with kids who live in hell, thank you for turning him in. Too many family members cover for abuse, claim it doesn't hurt anyone. It does hurt people, ****s up their whole lives. Thank you again for reporting.

Yes it is. You've made the correct choice. As hard as it is.
Ok. So the bolded part. That's what we are discussing. I only included my own experience to preface the bolded part and cuz I thought it'd help people answer the bolded part. Would it be correct to do compassionate release to prisoners or not.
