A new virus is looming in China

paradox

(㇏(•̀ᵥᵥ•́)ノ)
A new virus in China is looming stronger than COVID-19:

The virus was first detected in 2018 in the northeastern provinces of Shandong and Henan [China] but was only officially identified last week after China experienced a sudden surge in cases, now up to a total of 35.

What is the Langya virus?
The Langya virus belongs to the same family as the deadly Nipah and Hendra viruses, the henipavirus family.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), this family of viruses is highly dangerous, with Nipah being estimated to have a fatality rate between 40 to 75 per cent - much higher than the death rate reported for COVID-19.

How is Langya virus treated?
There are currently no vaccines for humans for henipaviruses, though one against Hendra virus exists for horses.

Langya virus: How worrying is the new animal-to-human LayV virus spreading in China? | Euronews

Do you think it will lead to new pandemic?

Edit:

News also say:
The Langya virus is a zoonotic infection - meaning the virus is spread from animals to humans. But as none of the patients in China had close contact with each other, experts believe that the transmission of the virus from animal to human is still sporadic.
But still mutations and other forms of transmission probably due to mutations are not excluded,
thus if China doesn't deal with this one quickly everything is possible I think.

This one better finish the job or not even try. All these upstart viruses aren't worth their salt....

Probably not.

"While it’s certain that the virus was transmitted from an animal to a human, researchers are still unsure about whether human-to-human transmission is possible at all."

Besides, this isn't the same world as pre-covid. Travel to China is only a fraction of what it
was, and it's harder than ever for Chinese citizens to be allowed to travel abroad now.

Then again, if the CCP attacks Taiwan, all flights and travel will be banned, like for Russia now.

True, the world isn't the same.
Likely only mutation of the virus can accelerate infection.

It's funny though how China seems it's becoming exporter of viruses.

True, the sheer numbers in China accelerate the vector chances.
But like I said, China won't be exporting much of anything at all if they attack Taiwan.

Yes. Unless China is exporting shrews, it seems most unlikely this virus will spread.

They're probably a delicacy somewhere.
According to Dylan Thomas that includes Wales, if you remember Butcher Beynon from Under Milk Wood. "Tuesday: shrews. And on Wednesday, I'll be after the corgis with my little cleaver." Or something like that - I forget the exact lines.

We should warn the Queen.

Ah - the woman you're not obsessed with. And is there a connection to shrews, viruses or the Queen or is this just for our general information? :D
I'm just pleased to see the algorithm has not yet decided to send me more stuff on ground screws or other tedious engineering stuff. So no connection. You can report me for off-topic posting, I suppose.

It's ok. The algorithm works on browsing history, you know like if you spend a lot of time looking at women's clothing websites. :)

I can already hear it...
"Biden is using this engineered virus
to keep us in a state of submission."

Well I never did before, but now I've been on a few times, sending links to Lucia, to various interested parties.

So if that means I see more of her, that will be excellent. I'll try to keep the algorithm topped up, to keep her in view. ;)
