A Quote I'd Like to Have Explained

Ouroboros

I just realized Orbit's signature text.

When you get the message, hang up the phone. --Alan Watts on enlightenment

I'm trying to understand what it means. Anyone care to point me in the direction? Does it mean that when you've reached enlightenment, you stop further or?

Just curious. Scratching my head a little. :)

From my sig. It comes from a lecture Watts did about the nature of enlightenment. Once you have achieved it, stop trying to find it. Get up, and apply that enlightenment to your daily life. Don't become focused on trying to repeat the experience. That's what it means.

Oh. Thanks for explaining. It makes sense. Also, I suspect that by trying and trying, you'd start to chase just experiences and not really anything new. There's no new enlightening to be had.

It makes me think of the past two years, my wife and I took cooking classes, and then she went into chef school. We've had a few dinners with food that is so delicious that I can feel a form of heightened or euphoric feeling. Almost like the spiritual experiences while I was in church years ago. And when we cook the same food at some later time, even if it's good, it can never compare to that first experience.
