A Writer's Dilemma

I wasn't sure where to write this, but I figure here I'd get the most help from people who think something like I do. I'm a writer of fantasy and science fiction, with an emphasis on psychological horror. Despite how this sounds, I write because I want to help people, and my horror stories are often negative parables. For example, I show how chasing after revenge instead of forgiveness can destroy a person, or how refusing to let go of the departed can cut you off from those who are still alive who need you.

In my writing, I often deal with extremely mature themes, and I often walk a line between being accurate and being offensive. Anyone else here have similar problems? Anyone suggest some guidelines? Thanks!

I too am a fantasy and sci-fi writer. I don't so much write to illustrate morality issues, but of course they do come up. I figure, the bolder the better; if you are trying to send out a message with your writing, a little "shock" to your readers can force them to actually think, rather than put down your writing thinking "what a nice story/what a good writer" instead of understanding the message.
