Sigh....I've been taking a kicking in other threads on the subject of evolution. I KNOW THAT EVOLUTION HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ABIOGENESIS! But what I'd like to know if, of those who subscribe to the general ToE, how many would accept these options:
1. We were created by a divine creator/being ie God
2. We came about by natural means yet to be discovered
3. We came about by other means

Our first ancestor was a self-replicating molecule floating around in a primeval soup.
And the rest is history.

Your options are far too vague. What do you mean by 'we'? Humans? Animals? Life-forms in general? For the first two, the answer would have to be that we came about by natural means increasingly well understood. If it's the third, then 2; but we're getting closer all the time.

God may have given us the keys to create our own heaven:-

If future scientists can work out how to time travel,
then they can travel back through time and upload the minds of every individual just before death, to a virtual reality like an advanced 'Second Life'.
That way we can achieve immortality.

And if that doesn't work pray and be good,
and God might let you into heaven!

The worst case scenario is that there is no God, and future scientists can't time travel.
Just maybe there are aliens who developed mind uploading capabilities generations ago, and they'll upload our minds to some virtual reality environment just before we die.

But if the aliens don't exist, then just count yourself extremely lucky to have ever existed in the first place.

In the beginning life began by molecules replicating themselves whilst making mistakes. So life evolved unaided by scientists. And here we are today conducting experiments trying to work out how life began.

Do you believe that we're the only intelligent life form in the universe?
Do you believe that some aliens are billions of years more advanced than us?
Do you believe they can and will help us?

Do you believe time travel is possible?
Do you believe mind uploading is possible?

Do you believe the existence of the Universe is an accident/natural phenomena?

Sigh...cos I was thinking, for us/all life to have evolved to where it is now, it would have to have evolved from non life to life. So even at that level, evolution had to have taken place, no?

From my understanding, evolution is basically the process of gene swapping where favorable genes are swapped more often than unfavorable genes. That said, evolution depends on other life to adapt life. I guess you could call the change from non-life to life evolution with the very basic definition of the term evolution (change), but as far as the scientific understanding of evolution, I don't think abiogenesis qualifies.

Why would options 1 and 2 be mutually exclusive. Both could be true.
1 is a question of agency. 2. is a question of mechanism.
Presumably an agent has a mechanism, so 1 must needs include 2.

Back to the subject of self replicating molecules.
4.5 Billion years ago the whole world was like a gigantic test-tube waiting for life to appear.
These days the scientists are working with test tubes trying to find the magic ingredients in a very short space of time.

I think the story of Adam and Even is a myth or a parable.

There are those who accept the theory of evolution and believe in a naturalistic universe, and there are those who believe in evolution and believe in a divine creator. In the U.S. it is around 40% that believe in “God” and accept evolution.

[/FONT] Why are Creationists so desperate to create a false dichotomy between science and “God”?

Hey, Mestemia, quick question: If you don't know/don't care, then why are you posting in this thread?
Boredom mostly.

though I do have a curiosity as to why the beginning of life is so important to creationists.
Seems to me that they have pinned it all (proving evolution false) on God creating the universe.
