Abortion Rights in Georgia and in Texas.

This is for anyone who thinks this issue has gone away. It hasn't. Trump and Vance might want to distract people by talking about Haitians eating cats, but this is still an issue, and the GOP are still trying hard to take away rights from women.

The GOP in Georgia just reinstated a near total 6 week ban on abortion. They could have waited until after the election to do this, but taking away women's rights is jus such an important issue for them they had to do it right now. This 6 week ban is currently in effect in Georgia.

In Texas they just had to make sure hospitals were not performing emergency abortions. These are procedures for women who are having serious complications, women whose lives are in danger. The Biden administration tried to make it clear that federal law meant that women had to have access to abortion when their health of life is at risk. But the Supreme Court just rejected that, at least as far as the great state of Texas is concerned.

I figured that would happen in Georgia. A few days ago I posted how abortion was legal in Georgia again. For now. I see that now did not last very long.

EDIT: And I am very sorry for the women of Georgia, but the state supreme court may have just done the Democratic Party a favor.

Georgia is very likely to be blue again. And even though the court helped in Texas I do not think that state is ready to join the 21st Century yet.

I am not from America, I hope you don't mind that I give my opinion on this abortion issue in America. But for me it's important that politicians should not impose such laws on women. Best to stop it in America, because Holland follows sometimes America blindly.

And this feels so wrong to me. Why wrong? Pretending to care for babies while en passant some politicians determine the fate of women ... absurd and crazy ... why? A (wo)man (judge) imposing a baby on someone else can be very cruel (emotionally, psychologically), if she really doesn't want it. Being cruel to another human is not a virtue America should be proud of

A man has no right (Adharmic) to make the abortion choice for a woman, especially in the first 20 weeks or so.
1) There is a saying "first walk in the other her shoes before judging" ... not many men would be brave enough to go through "giving birth to a child", but no man ever walked in her shoes
2) Do not do unto others what you do not want others to do unto you (men can't be the judge and impose child birth on women)

America is a 3rd world country when it comes to abortion, America has lost all sense of common decency on this issue.

It could be, that the politicians do this on purpose. In Holland our P.M. and his side kick has said publicly on television "we will make the people very angry", exactly as Klaus Schwab has written on his website. Here in Holland quite a few of these "make angry on purpose" have happened, but not yet with abortions. Here they use different tactics it seems

No abortion right is probably a result of Christianity. Christianity has this mental issue, that they seem to believe that they can impose religion, God, Satan, babies and what not onto other people. Totally disrespectful.

In India all women can have abortion if it's before 20-24 weeks

In the Netherlands an abortion is allowed until the fruit could survive outside the body. This means that an abortion is allowed up to the 24th week of pregnancy.

This 24 weeks seems right to me, I read they had this also for 50 years in America, but since around Covid they started to mess with women's bodies and heads in a very sociopathic way IMO.

I remember when the abortion issue centered around the developiing life of a child for which such decisions should not be weighed lightly.

Now in today's age , it's like the child doesn't exist anymore , and it's now all about it being solely a woman's body.

And you don't trust women to give the issue sufficient "weight" to make their own decision.

In the US abortions after the 20th week are and were very very rare. In fact by the 20th week 99% of all abortions have occurred. To me it seems rather reasonable that roughly 1% of abortions are medically necessary. In other words even if abortions were banned after the 24th week there would be no need to do that. Abortions that late in a pregnancy are very expensive and not covered by most insurance. Medically necessary ones are but I do not know of any insurance plans that cover an elective 24th week abortion. Here is a chart that shows how far along in pregnancies abortions are performed in the US:

The people of Texas have spoken. If they want change, well that will be a Texas matter.
And since when do conservatives support a majority talking away liberties for all women of reproductive age?

I remember when the abortion issue centered around the developiing life of a child for which such decisions should not be weighed lightly.
Always exaggerated and misrepresented. Always way too idealistic and ignored the reality of the lives of individual women.
Now in today's age , it's like the child doesn't exist anymore , and it's now all about it being solely a woman's body.
The child doesn't exist any more? From the party that won't support universal healthcare. That doesn't worry about climate change and the negative affects it causes like exessive heat. The party that often pushes creationism and other bogus ideas as they educate children. The party that doesn't care about pollution. The party that wants to eliminate nutrition labels.

Until conservatives are willing to actually care for anyone after they are born (which is whan a fetus becomes a child) then you can try to argue about how moral you are. Until then it's just hypocrisy.

And the irony for conservatives is that since Latinos tend to be Catholic and more likely to have more kids, and to eliminate abortion and reproductive care will likely result in whites becoming a minority even faster than predicted. You can't deport Hispanics when they are born in the USA, so even more brown people. What will Trump do then? How can he appeal to whites when they will be the minority? Trump will lie, but will you buy into it just to fuel hatred?

I'm always interested to hear what non-Americans read and think about Americans. What's odd is that I have hundreds of friends and acquaintences and very few support Trump. None of my close friends support Trump, and when we discuss politics we have no idea where these Trump supporters are, or who they are. It's almost as if they are ghosts. Very few have Trump signs in their yards. I've seen well over a hundred of Harris signs in my city, and only 5 Trump signs. And I live in a city that borders two red states, so Trump will win both. But the Harris enthusiasm is vastly more apparent. I've never seen this before.

My hope is that polls are way off and the supoprt for Harris is deeper than we know. I just can't believe so many Americans buy Trump's lies and corruption.

This election is a crisis for America. Even if Harris wins many liberals are concerned about the future, and how MAGAs will not behave morally or legally. We liberals are getting along with our lives, but we seriously worry that if Trump wins there is going to be a serious collapse of norms and stability. None of us really know what to expect. We are just hoping decency overcomes the majority of voters and Harris wins by a wide margin.

It's astounding how much rides on this election, and there are voters who aren't sure they even want to vote. Ukraine is nervous. Europe is nervous. Anyone who values democracy in the wolrd is nervous. Trump is disturbed and unreliable, and if he wins who knows what will happen next. The economy will certainly suffer, likely global. Economies like stability, and Trump is the antitheists of stability.

By the polls Harris continues to hold a narrow lead. I am hoping that as in some of the recent abortion polls that the pollsters are shown to way underestimate the number of people voting for freedom.

It does not help that the news appears to have a pro-Trump bias. They are clearly not reporting accurately about Trump's dementia, about his level of support, and they do not cover his lies as well as they did in the past. If they think that they are trying to be fair they are mistaken.

FWIW, I did a road trip in Michigan and Ohio at the end of August. On my trip, I saw more Trump signs than Harris signs.

It is still an issue. But it is more a state and local issue than a national one. Plus there are many other issues which have more impact.

Well Trump did threaten to pull ABC's broadcasting license after the debate with Harris. The FCC rejected the idea.

Hence the 20-24 weeks is good, though I would prefer 4 month, as the life enters a few days after that, and I do my best not to kill humans (so far, I have succeeded)

I think those are natural waves. Lots of injustice has been done to women in the past 100+ years, so first it's good to place full focus on women.

Now it's time for men to behave, and stop blaming women for his mistakes (having sex, with a woman who is not ready to have a baby)
No semen no child, as simple as that; totally man's responsibility. The man should first make sure the woman wants, and is ready physically, emotionally and mentally to have a child. Even more important "is the man ready for this responsibility, especially emotionally ready?

A smart thing would be: first have the baby talk, before doing the sex thing.

Man should be fully in control of himself then there will be very few problems of abortion.

Do they plan to ban after 24 weeks only? Then my reply was totally off

Thank you @Subduction Zone,

That's good to see, that most abortions are done that early.

Texas citizens don't have people's initiatives--they can't directly vote on abortion. The Texas legislation is a product of their legislators.
