About seers and prophets

Today's world is in a big fight. Fighting darkness, good fighting evil and truth fighting lie.

We must be on our guard more than ever, because many fake prophets are out in the world and they are trying to rob us of our souls and freedoms with their tricks and lies.

How can we defend ourselves against them? How can we figure out which ones are good and which ones are evil?

I've recently wrote an article about this subject on my blog, but I would like to know what other people think of this subject.

This problem alone should be enough to show why second-hand revelation through agents is a human concept and not one any reasonably bright and powerful deity would employ. There is only downside risk, such as you mention, and no advantage at all.

How can we defend ourselves against them?
The best way is to see the folly in the concept of second-hand revelation and then dismiss them all, IMO.

"By their fruits ye shall know them".

Also according to the bible you'll likely see them along with apostles:

Christ's true church is to be "built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets" (Ephesians 2:20).

"And he gave some, apostles and some, prophets and some, evangelists and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith" (Ephesians 4:11-13).

Dismissing them would work only if you see the whole prophet-prophecy concept as a second-hand revelation. But what if someone believes in this concept? How can someone make the difference between a false prophet and a genuine one?
I wrote an article on my blog about this thing, but I'm not allowed to post the link yet... :)

I guess you have to trust yourself. Trust in your own ability to tell fact from fiction. Go with your gut.

Considering all the manipulation techniques that can be employed... trusting your gut could prove to be a wrong thing to do.

There have been cases in which the so called prophets lost their minds after foretelling something... and the thing they predicted didn't take place.
Two conclusions can be drawn from this:
1. True prophecies don’t bring madness to the one that foretells them;
2. True prophecies always come to happen exactly as predicted.
