I guess this thread has come about as a result of a few threads, that have made me take stock of my own thoughts.

Just how necessary is it to dot i's and cross t's in one's own faith ? I ask this, because of another thread (The second coming of Jesus), in which I noticed that some posters were very definite about details; is it actually necessary be be so exact ?

From what i've discovered, there are no facts about religion.
Most religions are based upon an idea of divinity which is then smothered in speculation, imagination and propaganda.
Even the history of the world religions has been warped by centuries of myth-making.

The source divinity encompasses all things and all possibilities, nothing is right or wrong - certain or uncertain. To place certainties upon God robs It of its divinity by reducing the infinite possibilites and choices avaliable to It. There are no real t's or i's, only ones created by man.

Sorry if i've offended, these are just my opinions.

We come to Christ in child-like faith, we do not understand everything, I didn't when I was 8 years old and got saved, but I understood enough. Everyone is different, I like to find answers in the scriptures about everything I can, 'study to show thyself approved of God, a workman rightly dividing the word of truth', (or close to that). I feel there are mysteries we can and cannot know, I enjoy learning all I can, it gets me rooted and grounded in my faith. Others, like my wife, she just knows, and doesn't think anything of it, where if I question something, or someone challenges me, I have to study study study to be absolutely sure of the truth on the matter. It has really helped me and I think everyone should learn all they can about their faith, so they can be sure they have and are following THE truth. (if you believe in THE truth, lol).

Love your God, show love to everyone and everything you can. That's the only rules I follow. Follow what's in my heart. (As Evenstar said). To thine own self to true, and to thine own self be truthful.

As the saying goes, the devil is in the details...
(sorry, couldn't help myself...:bonk: )

Seriously though, interesting question. I would say that what I understand as salvation is found in the broad brush strokes of the love commandments. However, for the development of my own worldview and practice I think that the details of what we believe are important. We're not just these amorphous blobs of love. My rule of thumb about the details is that they are important and they can not conflict with the love commandments. If they do, I strongly question the details.
