Apparently, we're safe now. At least that's the little bit leaked from Ashcroft's five page resignation letter to President Bush.

"The objective of securing the safety of Americans from crime and terror has been achieved," Ashcroft wrote. Do you think he means the work he's done secures our safety or is it actually his resignation that makes us all more secure?

The speculation about his successor centers on Larry Thompson, who recently took a job as general counsel at PepsiCo. If appointed, Thompson would be the nation's first black attorney general.

I don't think anyone wants to leave their job and say, I still have work I didn't get done. Personally i'm happy to see the man gone!
