Advice on child abuse

If you are aware of a parent, specifically a father, hitting his son to a degree that you find unnacceptable (ie punching him in the face and throwing him into walls), what should be done about it? I am in this situation, of being aware that this is going on that is, and do not know what to do.

In the U.S., we have social services like DHS that we can report it to. I'm not sure what the equivelant in England is.

A quick Google gave me:

National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) in England, Wales and Northern Ireland Freephone 0800 800 500.

If a kid's being abused, it really needs to be reported. I'm not sure about in England, but I know in the US you can do these things anonymously, so nobody will know it was you that reported it. I just hope the system is better in the UK than it is in the US :(

Phaps you could call the school where this child attends and tell them...they have the authority I would imagine to do something further? I'm sorry you are faced with this but apparently it has been placed in your most capeable hands and I'm sure you'll find a way to do what you see as fit.:)

I am not aware of UK law but would make a detailed list of what it is you specifically heard or saw and how your senses influenced or correlated to your conclusion. Include dates and times if possible and turn it over to local authorities. In the USA child protective services would be the appropiate agency but I don't know how it works on your side of the ocean.

If you have conferred with others around you who have come to the same or similar conclusions based on what they have seen or heard (noise wise from the child abusers home) coordinate your efforts so you all go down at the same time to add weight to the story.

If the child is being "punched in the face" realize he is in great danger in the short term of having permanent or long term damage.
