The African Union is now a permanent member of the G20

The African Union became a permanent member of the G20 on Saturday at a summit of leaders of the world’s largest economies in New Delhi, marking the first expansion of the bloc since it was created in 1999 to cope with a series of financial crises.

The African Union will have the same status as the 27-member European Union (EU), the only regional bloc with full membership of the G20. The move was in line with the Indian G20 presidency’s efforts to put the concerns and interests of the Global South at the centre of its agenda for the summit.

The inclusion of the African Union will also add to the clout of the G20, which already accounts for about 85% of global GDP, more than 75% of global trade and about two-thirds of the world population.

So. Will it becom known as the G21?
G21..... very witty.
Its about time and long overdue.

Africa has a problem with Climate change and wars. The United Nations should sign up USA, Russia, China and India and countries worldwide to sign up to take their fair share of refugees who are escaping wars etc which are not their fault.

Africa will double to 2.5 bn in some years. With the rest of the countries unable to provide jobs or the young ,housing or health services. The challenge for Arica will be to ensure they can provide a decent living for their citizens. Organisations like International Planned Parenthood Federation do good work. Education and health services to ensure low infant mortality, encouraging women's education and rights and planned parenthood. With climate change their work will mean children have a happy future. We owe it to the next generation they ALL have a high standard of living like Switzerland.

African economy is improving slowly but steadily. Many black african billionaires and millionaires have come up in recent times with the richest being Nigerian industrialist Aliko Dangote having a fortune of around 13.5 billion dollars.

West Africa, East Africa, Central Africa and Southern Africa in particular, are expected to reach a combined GDP of $29 trillion by 2050.

A game-changer could be massive Chinese investments and development of infrastructure. They have made inroads in many african countries , and have solid relationships with African leaders.

The Chinese have offered large number of scholarships to African students to study in China and nearly hundred thousand african students are enrolled in chinese universities.

Access to African resources is key to China's economic development and hence China has a substantial presence in Africa at the moment.

An advantage the Chinese possess is that they lack the historical baggage of black slavery, colonial exploitation, racism and economic exploitation which Africa unfortunately shares with the west. For this reason, African leaders seems to be more comfortable and less wary dealing with the Chinese .

Oil rich Arab nations, Japan, India, South Korea , ASEAN similarly have increased their investments in Africa .

Africa being the second largest continent have untapped mineral wealth and natural resources that can become major aids to its economic development.

After the NATO with the complicity of some countries where women are treated like property and have zero rights,
overthrew Colonel Gaddafi, the one that did the most for the sake of the African Union.

To point that out.

And the perpetrators never apologized.
