somewhat different from a
merely conservative court.

I think its more than 'somewhat' different. I am reminded of Justice Scalia, a devout Catholic but never let his religion define his position on the Court. The present Court seems to be in the morality business and that's not an issue for the Court.

I agree that personal / church morality
should step aside for the Constitution
& stare decisis. The Pople has no
business running our court.
