After FDA approval of Comirnaty, antivaxxers claim it’s still “experimental”

I am quite certain that there are some silly people that might think this. But it would certainly be wrong to lump all those that don’t choose to take Covid vaccines into a false monolith. They probably have many opinions, some wrong some that should be heard out if nothing else.

The stupid never ends with the anti-vax charlatans:

US drug regulator did not approve thalidomide in the 1960s

While it appears to be true that the FDA did not approve thalidomide in the 1960s, this seems to be a rather unimportant fact to note.

“FDA approval is based on evidence — provided by the company that makes the medical product — that the benefits of the product outweigh the risks for most patients for a specific use. It doesn’t necessarily mean the product is safe.”
-Diana Zuckerman, president of the National Center for Health Research

The FDA does not conduct its own studies. This has nothing to do with vaccines. This is just basic knowledge of how the FDA operates. Similar things can be said about many of the drugs the FDA approves.

FDA approval just means that the benefits of the vaccine outweigh the risks for most people for use against Covid. Many drugs approved by the FDA are dangerous (have serious side-effects), but they treat the specific thing they say they treat.

Drugwatch
On average, about 4,500 drugs and devices are pulled from U.S. shelves each year. The recalled products have U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval and in many cases, are widely ingested, injected or implanted before being recalled. Although the FDA may identify concerns regarding the safety of a drug, it is the responsibility of the manufacturer to initiate and execute a recall. On the other hand, the FDA can mandate the recall of a device.

It is not at all a surprise that FDA approval didn't cause many anti-vaxxers to nod their heads and change their minds. FDA approval doesn't address most anti-vaxxer's concerns. Sure some people will go and get vaccinated because of FDA approval. Those people likely think that FDA approval means something more than what it actually means. But the reality is many vaccines are FDA approved and many anti-vaxxers oppose those vaccines as well. Why would they make an exception for these new vaccines that have only been around for something like one year, that were fast-tracked for use, and whose producing companies received waivers of liability?

They wouldn't. Call them stupid if you want to (it could even be that somebody claimed thalidomide was their reason for not getting vaccinated), but it's also possible that you never really understood their major objections to begin with.

I've heard enough. Anti-vaxers put us all at risk by undermining important public health campaigns.

Take one antivaxxer who lives alone and has no human contact. In stores they don't touch people. Staying six feet or more back out of habit and respect (not what they were told).

They come home, wash their hands and go to bed. At work they touch no one. They sit in their own space. No one can sneeze on them and no one touches people. No germ spread.

This person is not an activist and only surfs the net but no harm comes from reading CDC sites and curious of stupid conspiracies.

How are they putting people at risk?

How are they undermining health campaigns?

Antivax activist sure, but the vast small minority that are against vax arent enough to make a difference.

We've heard much about stupidity on both sides of the vax issue.
They claim balance....good information on both sides.
Doesn't it seem a little strained that people eschewing vaccination
would dis those who do the safer thing, ie, get the shots, & reduce
the risk of hospitalization & death?

They speak of "over-reaction" & stupidity. As I see it....
Over-reacting to danger by excessive precaution is smarter
than over-reacting by refusing precaution & advocating that
others do the same.

Some poster boys for stupid...

Anti-vaxxer hospitalised with Covid after saying vaccines would wipe out ‘stupid people’

Just some extra info: Marc Bernier has died of COVID:

Florida radio host who called himself ‘Mr Anti-Vax’ dies of Covid-19

I find the news sad, not satisfying or amusing in the slightest. A death that was most likely preventable happened because of misinformation and fearmongering (and yes, I believe fear drives a lot of anti-vax sentiment, contrary to the notion that some seem to have that fear only drives those who take precautions).

I agree. Same as paranoid people don't realize they are paranoid and people that are overreacting don't realize they are overreacting.
Great comment.
I can’t think what is worse, intentionally stupid or paranoid?
Maybe stupid leads to paranoid? I don’t know.

But a paranoid population quickly loses its freedoms, imo.
