AI guidance ? what do you think ?

Hi everyone, I've read about different religions trying to understand if they fits with my ideas or reason , but non of then convince me completely. Some of them have pieces that i buy and others that i completely refuse.
In order to understand better each religion i found that the best way was using AI tools like chatGPT or Gemini and i think they really offer valuable and quick source of information so you can make an idea of how to deal with an issue by certain religious perspective.
I would like to know if you have used some AI tool for guidance and what do you think about it.
Are they useful in your opinion ? or the aid they provide is not valuable ?
Thanks

Yes, welcome to RF.

In general I've found chatbots valuable but not infallible. For example, I asked my current favorite, perplexity.ai , this question: What are the similarities between Hinduism and Islam?

The answers are interesting but given the vast range of belief in Hinduism from atheism, monotheism and polytheism, the one supreme being comparison is suspect at best.

It's also important to note where the answers come from: reddit and a newspaper. There was no in depth references from noted theologians.

Belief in One Supreme Being

Both Hinduism and Islam fundamentally believe in the existence of one supreme divine power:
Both religions view this supreme being as omnipotent, omniscient, and the ultimate source of creation

Ethical and Moral Teachings

Hinduism and Islam share some common ethical principles:

Spiritual Practices

There are some parallels in spiritual practices:

Eschatological Beliefs

Both Hinduism and Islam have concepts related to the end times:

Free Will and Individual Responsibility

Hinduism and Islam both emphasize:

Cultural Influences

In regions where Hindus and Muslims have coexisted for long periods, there have been cultural exchanges:
While these similarities exist, it's important to note that the theological frameworks, practices, and beliefs of Hinduism and Islam differ significantly in many other aspects. The similarities mentioned here are broad and general, and the specifics of how these concepts are understood and practiced can vary greatly between the two religions.

Welcome welcome ! Ai is really just an elaborated chatbot throwing back up any info it gets to scraps on the internet. There is no "intelligence" behind it, it is not the cool sci-fi super thinking half sentient being people think it is.

It is also extremely unreliable, as you can see when I ask about something that doesn't exists and it is making things up instead of correcting me or saying it doesn't know. What's said on the screenshot below is completely false, about a religious observance that doesn't exists and yet it's "educating" me on it.

I'd not give my spiritual questions and development to an unreliable chatbot.

Do you want it fast or do you want it right?

First, Artificial Intelligence isn't a kind of tool, it is a way of making tools. There is nothing fundamental about AI that automatically makes AI tools better or worse than any of the alternatives. Also, and as with tools in general, what is at least as important as the quality of the tool is using the right tool for the right job.

The public AI chat bots are primarily designed for entertainment purposes (and indirectly, get lots of free testing and data). They are encouraged to generate interesting and entertaining responses over and above strictly accurate ones. They will alter, combine and remove context from their source data, which means they can easily (and unintentionally) present results that are misleading or outright false, often in subtle ways that aren't immediately apparent.

It would be perfectly possible to create actual AI search engines or data analysis tools that are designed to present unaltered factual results with full context (and I think many major search engines already use elements of AI to generate search results) but that is certainly not what you're using, and creating the impression that it is would be simply wrong.

Ultimately, good research takes time and effort, especially in complex and speculative fields like religion. You generally can't shortcut too much of that, especially not using automated tools (even ones using AI). If you want to be sure you understand the information, you have to read it yourself. Hence my opening question.

I use AI for doing artwork. Text to Art. I did one art piece with Donald Trump playing chess with Albert Einstein. It did a really good job with their faces and hair using some younger pictures.

Trump's left hand is a little odd due to the AI not exactly sure how to draw hands holding and moving chess pieces. That is a specific taks to learn and may not be intuitive to the AI.

They way you fine tune that is you not only give the AI a positive text direction; "Trump and Einstein playing chess in suits", but also negative text of what you do not want the the AI do, such as, bad hands, bad finger, extra arms, etc. I assume the same things will happen with AI text processors, unless it is trained to know the subtleties and you have a way to add negatives to avoid.

The image below was done with a free AI app called Artist AI. The full version is more professional and has more creative liberty. But I am fine leaning on the limited free version. It produces such beautiful output.

In my view they (AI chatbots) are factually wrong too much of the time to be useful. I personally reckon wikipedia is a better source of information.

Wikipedia is also edited by bots.

If you read your link it says bot edits are 5% which is not very high. Also my experience has been that they are used to revert page edits due to vandalism, which doesn't seem like a highly taxing task like actually generating answers.
ETA never mind misread the link. I'll read it more fully and get back to you later.

Even then I regard wikipedia as more of a useful starting point for research than unquestionable truth in my view.

I wouldn't say I use A.I. as guidance but I do use it to look things up in the bible that would take me more time than it does with A.I. It's fine to use, just do your own research on the answers, they can be wrong.

In art work, the artist has a vision of what they want to create. To do that with AI; text to image, you need to put the AI in a cage. This is done not only by telling it what you want; positives, but also what you do not want; negatives.

When you use AI for text to text; tell it to write something, you may not know the positive and negatives for the correct cage, thereby leaving the door of the cage open. The AI will then take liberties and add what may not be useful or true.

If you already knew the negatives and the positives, you would not need AI to do more than proofread or condense. The artist has more room, since all you need is a base vision and AI art does not have to be exact. Art is more subjective, and the AI can add some unexpected stuff that is still artful. Visual art is not about right or wrong, like text and theory, useless the goal is fiction.

With the Trump and Einstein picture, the art looks photographic, but never occurred in history, which could fool you if this was text to text and not text to art. The AI could generate a fictional encounter in words. The text to art combined with text to text, could have them discussing immigration, as they play chess. It does not have to be true to make you feel and think.

Let me suggest what I think is a better way.
You may know what a Gieger counter is. When it get close to radioactivity it begins to click fast and loudly.
Our opened heart and prayerful spirit is like a detector that picks up God's divine express speaking to us personally.

Open the Bible and read through with a willingness to be changed by God should God want that.
As you read through with heart opened to God something will eventually seem to shine on your personal life.
Linger there. Before moving on, linger there and pray a bit over that part.

If you do this as a practice you will learn to taste God's reality. And you'll find it enjoyable and life transforming as well.
Postive changes will seem to organically happen in your life. And you'll know the source of those changes is not you.
You'll come to realize that God is the source of this life transformation.

I would recommend - Luke's Gospel, or John, or Romans for the New Testament. Or Genesis, Exodus, or First Samuel or Psalms to start in the OT.
Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy. God is good for food.
