I want Khilafah back
Salam to all.
A few nights ago during taraweeh I got reminded about something when the Imam made a mistake during recitation and he was quickly corrected by the jammat.
After many years on this forum, I have often seen threads and questions directed at Muslims to prove that the Qur'an hasn't been changed since it's time of revelation. But the catch to this question is that there must be physical evidence to support the claim such as an old physical Qur'an from the time of Rasulallah, salallahu alayhi wa salm.
As Muslims, we usually get sucked into these questions because we know that the Qur'an hasn't been changed. But every time someone asks this question we seem to forget everything that we know about the history of the Qur'an and dive into these questions making a mess of it all.
Insha Allah, (God willing) I will use this thread to post recitations of the Qur'an and use this (slightly long) OP to remind not only you but myself too of why exactly the Qur'an is a timeless miracle and explain the miracle that Allah has bestowed upon it for it's preservation.
Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur'an and indeed, We will be its guardian.
Qur'an, 15:9
Most of us know of this verse, we've read it, heard it, memorized it etc, but we can't explain exactly how it is that Allah, subhanahu wa tala, is protecting the Qur'an. The answer is through memorization.
The Qur'an has survived to this day because we as Muslims memorize the Qur'an word for word, cover to cover. So now the real question is not whether has the Qur'an been changed, but instead, how could it?
How could the Qur'an be changed when hundreds of thousands if not millions of people memorize it and recite it on a daily basis. It goes from generation to generation, from parent to child. There is no room for someone to simply make an honest mistake without someone correcting them, let alone intentional alteration to a verse or a word.
We have an early example of this form of protection:
Narrated `Umar bin Al-Khattab:
I heard Hisham bin Hakim bin Hizam reciting Surat-al-Furqan in a way different to that of mine. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) had taught it to me (in a different way). So, I was about to quarrel with him (during the prayer) but I waited till he finished, then I tied his garment round his neck and seized him by it and brought him to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and said, "I have heard him reciting Surat-al-Furqan in a way different to the way you taught it to me." The Prophet (ﷺ) ordered me to release him and asked Hisham to recite it. When he recited it, Allah s Apostle said, "It was revealed in this way." He then asked me to recite it. When I recited it, he said, "It was revealed in this way. The Qur'an has been revealed in seven different ways, so recite it in the way that is easier for you."
Al Bukhari
And the other night during taraweeh was just another example of this. There is no 'book' or scripture that is read/recited as much as the Qur'an on any given day, week, month or year.
Lastly, I want to invite anyone who is not a Muslim that might be reading this post and that might be curious about this fact that the Qur'an could not possibly change or have been changed to simply visit a Mosque during this month of Ramadan and witness this miracle yourself. Witness how there is no tolerance for even the slightest mistake, unintentional or otherwise, without someone pointing it out.
If anyone fears of becoming a Muslim, you cannot become a Muslim simply by going to a Mosque, listening to the Qur'an and either watch or pray like us unless you freely and willfully recite the declaration of faith knowing what it is that you are reciting and what it means, so I am not tricking anyone into becoming a Muslim.
Oh and we don't bite, we will have filled our bellies by the time we go for the evening prayers if there is anyone that fears Muslims that is.
Videos of recitations will follow soon insha Allah. And anyone is welcome to post their own too.
