Alien Vs. Predator

Saw11_2000

I just saw it. I think Hollywood is starting to run out of ideas. I thought it was....ehhhhh.

Anyone else see it?

Anyone like the Alien or Predator movies. I thought Alien, Aliens, and Alien: Resurrection (spelling) were alright, (Alien3 sucked).

As you can tell I'm running out of ideas for threads as well. :p

I remember seeing a commercial for it awhile back, and thinking, "Alien wins, we die...Predator wins...we die. If the humans die no matter what, then why do I care whether the Aliens or the Predators win? It doesn't even matter either way!"

LOL!

Well that's wrong, but I did see the exact same thing on the back of the box. Actually it turns out the Predators help us because the aliens hate us and the predators hate them, humans don't die, but in the beginning both of them are killing us. It's very strange. Some parts were just plain awkward.

I don't see movies with periods in the name.

Actually, my only rule as to what movie to watch is whether or not I can get someone else to pay for my ticket, or let me watch it when they rent it. I'll watch most anything, unless it involves Will Ferrell or Angelina Jolie.

I liked it but it wasn't as good as the other Alien movies. Then again, I was never a Predator fan.

I don't much care for Angelina Jolie or Brad Pitt, but they have a movie coming out called "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" and the previews look hysterical.

Not a good summary. ;)

Predators were killing us in the begiinning, because we did not have larval aliens in us at the time. Neither the aliens or the predators "hate" us. The aliens just view us as easy prey, and the predators viewed us as inconsequential, and we fell into the category of things that get in the way. Thus, they killed us. Finally, when that girl manages to kill an alien, she wins a measure of respect from a predator, who helps her then. Predators also don't "hate" the aliens. They use them as a rite of passage, and for ritual combat. They kill them for honour.

I liked the movie, but some parts were entirely unrealistic.

The concept was kinda cool . Druidus gives a fair summery , without getting into the religious background of the movie which is what I enjoyed . And saying that " some parts were entirely unrealistic " is a bit of an understatement . ;)

Being a writer, I tend to overanalyze movies, but I'll try to avoid that here.

Good elements:
*Complex cultural interactions between humans, predators, and aliens.
*Use of cues from previous movies to tone down the gory elements (i.e. we all know what it means when you wake up next to a dead face-sucker.
*Plot pacing, suspense vs. action vs. horror in fair balance.
*Serpent motif as a symbol of the alien (or vice versa)

Bad elements:
*Someone thought that "aliens" jump starting earth civilization was an original idea. :bonk:
*It's an action movie, so it's got its share of loopholes and contradictions and whatnot. Just don't think too hard, and you'll do fine.
*In other Alien movies, the creature is often defeated with force and a hefty dose of cleverness. In this one, cleverness is barely involved.
*Highly predictible at parts. It's an LMS (last man standing) movie, we all know it, we all know who it's going to be (even though it's not the exact same character). They don't even try to hide the fact that it's LMS.
