All hail the Slavic Indians (Hindu music)

Djamila

Bosnjakinja
I mentioned in a previous thread that Mexican film and music became very popular in communist Yugoslavia because Soviet propaganda was banned, and the government needed something.

It led to people wearing sombreros, everything you can think of. It's really surreal to look back on.

Well, now, in 2006, a new trend is gripping the former Yugoslavia. Indian, Hindu music. The lyrics of popular Indian songs are translated into Bosnian, Serbian, and Croatian but still performed with an Indian sort of flair.

It's become so popular that many of Bosnia's "Beijing Cafes" (Chinese Restaurants) are changing to "Paki Pots" (Indian Restaurants).

Here's a couple of examples. If any Indian forumers on RF can share the Indian originals of these songs, please do!

There's also of course (but this is more Bosnian in character) translated versions of Arabic songs. This song, Ona to zna by Tijana Dapcevic, was originally Ana Wayak by Egypt's Roula Saad.

For some reason I'm unable to view the videos when I click on the links. Is there a website where I can listen to the songs themselves?

I'm so sorry but I don't think I ever heard an Indian song like that. It looks like you found the Indian version for it though (I see from one of your previous posts). I'm now able to view the videos but the videos are starting then stopping, starting then stopping, I think because my connection is slow. It's hard for me to understand the entire song because of this. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. If you are interested in Indian songs, a good site is www.mag4you.com, but the songs are classified according to the movies they come from.
