Am I a Christian?

I have this problem to where I choose a certain sin instead of God. And the desire for that sin is greater than my desire for God. Am I a Christian?

I believe that there is a God. He may not have created the world in six literal 24 hour-day periods, but he did create the process by which the world came into being. I do believe he (God) is holy.

I believe Jesus was God's sole incarnation. That he was a perfect human being that submitted to God the Father, and that he was God the Son. I believe he died the death we deserve on the cross, but he rose from the dead three days later.

I believe the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity that lives inside of all who decide to believe in Jesus for salvation. I believe the Holy Spirit is able to teach Christians truth even without a Bible.

I believe the Bible was inspired by God and written by man. I don't think it's inerrant but I do believe it's infallible. Some things matter more than others.

I ultimately believe that Jesus is God, but people don't necessarily need an experience with Christianity in order to experience Christ.

I believe all who God wants to save will come to him through faith in Jesus. I believe that salvation is through faith in Jesus and repentance from sin. I do not believe that repentance is a list of things to avoid.

I believe every day Christians are to hold on to Jesus as their standard, seeking to emulate him. I believe that culture can sometimes be right about how to interpret Jesus' message.

I believe that ultimately salvation is completed at the point of death for the believer. I do not believe that death is defeat, instead it is victory.

I believe that the Church is the Bride of Christ, and like her Lord remains invisible for the time being. But I believe that the saints will be revealed at the last day. I do not believe a specific Church is the Bride of Christ, instead I believe that there are some in every denomination.

Ultimately, God's plan has always been for people to respond in faith to him and to obey him. I believe the Old Testament must be interpreted by the New.

I believe Jesus is coming back to recreate the world. I believe he will judge the hearts of men and bring those who are his into his kingdom. I believe the kingdom of heaven will never end.

I believe the kingdom of heaven cannot be defeated.

I do not think it is for me to say if you are Christian for sure. It is for you to tell me and for me to either fellowship with you or not; and in this I am to show mercy and non-judgment. I could judge either your behavior or your beliefs, but in either case I would be worse. Would I fellowship with you if you had a sin that kept causing you problems? Well probably I would fellowship if I were being reasonable, but if you were promoting evil behavior publicly that is where I should probably draw the line or if you were somehow trying to create a fracas that would make yourself a little lord of your own harem of Christians. The real challenge of being a Christian is putting up with other people and treating them well and looking after them, so if you manage to do that you are doing pretty good. I mean if we are talking about things that are of relative concern its not so much simple overeating/getting drunk/sex that's the biggest issue but the issue of doing nothing, of putting the fingers in our ears while people are in trouble or of mistreating other people. Again if you are promoting sin its different than if you are tempted by sin.

Not based solely on that information.

Do you believe in God (the God of Abraham)?

If yes

Do you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and savior?

If yes

Do you do your best to avoid sin? (This does not mean you actually avoid sinning, but do you try your best to resist sin.)

If yes

Do you repent and ask Jesus to forgive you of that sin?

If yes

Then yes, you are a Christian.

If you answer "no" to any of these, you are not a Christian.

*** Moderation Post***

Please remember that this is a DIR forum!

10. Debating in Non-debate Forums or Posting in DIR/ONLY Forums
Religious forums is structured to provide spaces for many different kinds of conversations. Different kinds of conversations belong in different areas of the forum:

1) Debates should be kept to the debate areas of the forums, including Religious Debates, General Debates, and Political Debates. Debating anywhere other than these forums may result in moderation. Same Faith Debates is governed by special rules described here. Only members of the specified groups(s) can participate in these threads.

2) All DIR (Discuss Individual Religions) forums are for the use of members who identify with those groups or practices. Debating is not permitted in DIRs; debates between members of specified groups should be posted in Same Faith Debates. Members who do not identify with a DIR group may only post respectful questions; we recommend creating a thread in the Religions Q&A instead where there is more freedom to comment. DIR forums are not to be used as a cover to bash others outside of the DIR group.

3) The Political World forum has several "only" subforums that are for the use of members who identify with those political leanings. Members who do not identify with those political leanings are not allowed to post there.

Many of us still have habitual sins that we need to conquer, myself included. The problem isn't falling back into the sin (though that still is a problem), the problem is not caring that we fall back and not caring for God. The fact that you're even asking this question shows me that you do in fact care, so in my eyes, yes, you're still a Christian with a cross to bear, like all of us. Just keep carrying that cross, pray, fast, repent, and God will give you the increase and eventually your freedom.
