Am I am oddball

Am I am oddball?

-I have never seen a psychiatrist.
-I have never been in a psych ward.
-I have never been diagnosed or treated for a mental problem.
-I have never been on depression or other similar medication.
-I have never been on any kind of welfare or etc.
-I have never been confused about who or what I am.
-I have never lived in a group home.
-I however did spend right at a year in jail when I was 18 for assault(part of my SIS deal so no record).
-I have lived on my own and earned/paid by own way for the last forty five years, since I was 16.

My point is I see many speak about much of the above that they experience or have experienced that I've never had to deal with or experience so how can anyone understand those things that they haven't experienced?

Am I am oddball?

I don't think this is that unusual, given that only about 25% or so will experience any mental health problems I believe, and I could tick all those mentioned apart from jail (never been, that is) and one particular issue, even though I do believe I have suffered from three mental health problems during my life. My experience with psychiatrists and such (a psychologist as I recall) is just one consultation - due to what I experienced as a nervous breakdown - and where my doctor simply prescribed anti-anxiety medication. Getting hooked on such and not much else in the way of support saw me taking medication for about seven or eight years until I gradually weaned myself off of them without any doctor's assistance. They were giving me more issues than they solved and I'm sure something else would have been far more appropriate.

That's not being an "oddball". That's called being "fortunate".

I feel like an oddball here sometimes when others speak of being transgender, gay, being in a group home, seeing a shrink, etc. I'm kinda it a loss for words being I'm not familiar with what they are experiencing.

Then count yourself fortunate. Are you bothered by others discussing their social challenges or mental health issues? Look at it as an opportunity to learn and grow.

Its okay to not have similar experiences. It doesn't make you, or them, odd. It just makes us all unique.

No, you're not the oddball. I've never been in jail, but I have had some makyo/confusion associated with my spiritual practice and trauma from experiencing a difficult childbirth, and I didn't go on my own until I was 19. I can check all the rest of the boxes.

{Oh if you are wanting some help in experiencing confusion, I can recommend some meditations you can try. ;) }
