American Idol

Does anyone watch this? I love American Idol. It seems better this year. I like the personal stories of the contestants. I love the people who are convinced they can sing, but can't.

Australian Idol is not very godd. Much like Big Brother, all of it is set up from the start. It is merely a "hype" thing to make money.

The American one isn't a set up. You go through the whole process with them. Last year Hawaii tried to hog the phone lines so their constestant could win, but it didn't work.

Although I have strong evidence of my point, I won't argue it because I don't want to anger you...more so.

I haven't watched much of it, but the parts of it that I have were pretty funny. I think it's funny that so many people think they sound good, when they obviously don't. I actually knew a girl who auditioned and made it through the first cut. She actually had a very nice voice.

With last year's American Idol, I heard a lot of discontent from people who were trying to vote for Latoya and Fantasia but could never get through - hour after hour, week after week. And yet, they weren't in the top 3 in those weeks. There was talk of the voting being rigged...

With Australian Idol last year, one of the best performances by one of the remaining 3 (or 4?) contestants was not broadcast to regional Queensland - his largest fan base. They cut to an ad as he started to sing. He was voted out that week. It struck me as more than a little sus...

That being said, I got totally sucked in to both American Idol and Australian Idol last year. I'm not sure what's happening with Australian Idol this year, currently we have a similar show called 'The X Factor' that has just started. I love watching the early auditions, and the reactions of people being told they can't sing, when it's patently obvious to everyone but them how bad they really are. :p Love it!

One thing that really annoyed me about both American and Australian Idol, was the shameless promotion of people who can't sing (to the point of getting them to release a single, purely because they're so bad!). William Hung was the American guy, I can't remember the Australian guy's name, but he was the equivalent. By all means, bring out their audition tape for a laugh, but don't fill their heads or our ears with crap, by making think they're actually talented!! [/rant]

The voting problem in America was caused by the Hawaii People. The program isn't rigged because it's the American public who votes. However, some people learned how to tie up the lines. Also, some people weren't voting. I think they have solved the problem. We will see what happens this year.
