Speaking of right-wing insurgency and staying in the context of library books....

The sad thing is, at least one school gave in to the right-wing terrorists. Now I'm wondering, how long before this goes from bomb threats to actual bombs? How many kids will the right wingers kill?
They've already demonstrated a willingness to sacrifice the lives of children for the sake of ideology (i.e. unwilling to address school shootings.)

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
As long as they can find qualified instructors to teach it... and America is currently in the middle of a teacher shortage.
Competitive shooting is a great sport and teaches respect and responsibility with firearms.

There were students parked in my school parking lot with their rifles secured in a gunrack in the back window of their pickup trucks.

No panic, no paranoia. No cops surrounding the campus with snipers on the rooftops.

As bad as voter suppression is, if I could change one thing in US politics it would be to end gerrymandering and have every district drawn up by an independent, bipartisan committee. I think folks would be shocked at the difference it would make.
That's exactly how it works across Canada. Elections Canada (non-partisan) draws all the maps.

I guess it's not only books being banned, but also songs.

MADISON, Wis. — Administrators at a Wisconsin elementary school stopped a first-grade class from performing a Miley Cyrus and Dolly Parton duet promoting LGBTQ acceptance because the song “could be perceived as controversial.”

Students at Heyer Elementary School in Waukesha had prepared a rendition of “Rainbowland” for their spring concert, but school officials struck the song from the lineup last week. Parents in the district say the decision was made because the song encourages LGBTQ acceptance and references rainbows.

Supt. James Sebert, who did not immediately return a call on Monday, confirmed to Fox6 that administrators had removed “Rainbowland” from the first-grade concert because it might not be “appropriate for the age and maturity level of the students.” He also cited a school board policy against raising controversial issues in classrooms.

Sebert has previously prohibited rainbows and pride flags from being displayed in Waukesha classrooms and suspended the school district’s equity and diversity work in 2021.

“Let’s all dig down deep inside, brush the judgment and fear aside,” the song from Cyrus’ 2017 album “Younger Now” goes. “Living in a Rainbowland, where you and I go hand in hand. Oh, I’d be lying if I said this was fine, all the hurt and the hate going on here.”

I wonder if they might ban "When Johnny Comes Marching Home."

When Johnny comes marching home again, Hurrah, hurrah!
We'll give him a hearty welcome then, Hurrah, hurrah!
The men will cheer, the boys will shout,
The ladies, they will all turn out,
And we'll all feel gay when Johnny comes marching home.

This is why I am convinced that the more the establishment pushes this the more the upcoming generation will embrace the lgbtq and fight for tolerance. This is temporary. I am sorry that people are going to be killed in the meantime, but this can’t last.

Teaching kids not to judge and fear each other? How lame. Yuck!

Wow, talk about absurd.

Read the books that others would burn.

That's great -- but you still need a teacher.
Someone who we all know WILL be blamed if there's a shooting at the school.
