An Atheist's Christmas

Charity

Let's go racing boys !
I believe everyone should celebrate the Holiday however they want to. Call it whatever you desire, but enjoy it.
I've always thought of it as a magical time of year, I know that is a strange thing for a Christian to say. The magic starts when an infant sees it's first lighted tree, opens their first presents, and plays with their first toys left by Santa. I don't think the magical quality ever leaves us. The friends, family, traditions are set in our minds and hearts and probably be there to stay.
No matter what you call it, or how you celebrate, it is a wonderful time of year.
I think you should celebrate any way that makes you happy :D

Frankly though, I'm a bit scared about thanksgiving and christmas this year, because my dad died in august and it will be the first time he isn't here. It's going to be weird. I'm getting very nervous about thanksgiving.
I think I know where you're coming from. My Dad died on December 28, 2005. The past few years Christmas hasn't really been the same, since I remember back to spending the holidays in the hospital.

Okay... I'm depressed now. Back to fun Christmas memories, anyone?

You'll get a kick out of this.......

one year, my dad was reading to me or something...he had fallen asleep with me and it was Christmas Eve. Suddenly I woke up, FRANTIC because I realized everyone else had fallen asleep and NO ONE left the cookies and milk out for Santa!!!!!!!!! AHHH!!!

So I rushed to the kitchen and was like, on the verge of tears and pleading with Santa to go to China first or somewhere (my exact words) so I could just get his cookies and milk ready. Also, we left out turkey and carrots for the reindeer so I got some of that, too.

Hahaha...thinking back on that makes me laugh so hard.......man....haha. Can't remember how old I was but it had to have been really young since it was in our first house.

Well, there you go. :D

When I was 6, my older sister told me there was no such thing as Santa, and she was saying mean things about him, and I was so sad. So I told her to stop saying mean things, because Santa is real!! And then my mom and dad told me he wasn't real, and I cried.

Oh... wait... Happy memories...

Uh... When my little sister was younger and still believed in Santa, we made little elf foot prints on our bathroom floor. :D She loved that.

Hahaha I figured it out because every Christmas I would leave Santa a note asking him if he was real.....eventually I got old enough to realize Santa wrote his S's exactly like my mom did........

:D

My mom used separate wrapping paper and wrote with all CAPS when she was posing as Santa... She was crazy about that...... I think you souldn't ever tell your children that there is a Santa. Why lie to them just so they'll be sad when they figure out he isn't real?

I agree. I've thought about what I'm going to tell my kids if I ever have them.

My parents never out-and-out told me that there was a Santa, but I kinda picked up on the idea.

By the time I was 5 or 6, I figured he wasn't real, but then one Christmas, something happened that made me unsure: we were living in a townhouse at the time, so we were right next to our neighbors on either side. Apparently, the Dad of the family next door to us went up on the roof in the middle of the night and stomped around while jingling sleigh bells. I heard the noise, and it left me wondering for a while whether there might actually be something to the whole Santa thing.

Isn't it strange?? The lengths adults will go to in order to upkeep their lies to their children??
Yeah. I'm kinda glad my parents never did that.

For us, Santa was treated kinda like a game. My parents would tell us things like "if you don't go to bed now, Santa will skip our house" but it was always with an implied "wink, wink".

Our Santa was a bit of a scare tactic as well. I was always very good, because I knew if I was bad, Santa wouldn't come to our house. After I knew he wasn't real though, I could be a horrible bad child... I guess the god issue was there still... up until I was 13. :D
