When I saw the word 'Rama', it rang a bell - but it was only 'Rendezvous with Rama' by Arthur C. Clarke. good thing I found that on a quick search - it's the sort of thing that keeps nagging at me until I get the answer....

Pretty impressive (and interesting), but surely that's a causeway, not a bridge? Both the picture and the description seem to suggest an artificially raised road bed rather than a structure over the water.
