Anger

How many of you wrestle with anger?

I must admit I struggle with it at times!

How do you handle your anger?

Does meditation help?

Here's a fabulous collection of articles at one of my favourite sites -

Anger Archives - Lion's Roar

I especially like the piece by Pema Chodron.

I have a couple of her books and can highly recommend them!

All the best!

Yes, anger has been a great obstacle to me through much of my life. Recently it has reduced to the point where it seldom comes up, and when it does arise it is weaker and easier to manage. After going on a brief retreat I stepped up my meditation practice to a (mostly) daily thing, and that has helped immensely. The cure for anger is a combination of perspective and practice.

Thinking of anger as one of the 5 hindrances, then a useful antidote is metta bhavana practice.
The Five Mental Hindrances and Their Conquest: Selected Texts from the Pali Canon and the Commentaries
I've found it helpful to focus on the first stage of metta bhavana, towards oneself. Getting angry with yourself for feeling angry certainly isn't a constructive approach!

More generally I've found mindfulness and meditation very helpful. Clearly recognising these feelings and putting more mental space around them seems to have the effect of "defusing" them and making them more understandable and manageable..

Thanks for the feedback!

I already do metta meditation - some days better than others!

All the best!

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
I treat anger same as with nuances that arise during meditation.

Acknowelege it, then let it go and allow it to dissipate.
