Animals Can Be Giant Jerks

Mind you such behaviors are punished in some social organisms. Alcoholism can occur in bees and the other bees will kick that bee out. And in chimps some negative social behavior will get one ostracized from the rest.

I don't see animals being "jerks". After all, animals, for the most part, live by instinct and for survival of their species.

Bees that consume these alcoholic products get bad reputations. But when the influence of the drink is removed and the bee is sober, it is permitted to enter the cell immediately and only after the defensive bees make sure that the toxic effect is completely disappeared.
There are even bees that are assigned to monitoring this phenomenon which plays a role in purifying the cell from bad bees. They are called “bee bouncers.” These bees stand by, defending and guarding the cell. They observe very closely any bee that consumes numbing products, and shove them away from the cell. If the drunken bee tries to penetrate again, the “security” will break its legs to prevent it from trying to consume these risky products again!
How the human is stunned with this perfect system! We might find an answer for those who disagree with the rulings that Islam has brought forbidding consumption of alcohol and commanding the whipping of who drinks it. If bees follow this system with entire accuracy, shouldn’t we follow the bees as a model for us?!

Hilariously enough one of the reason people consumed alcohol was because it was safer to drunk than water at the time. Mind you need aren't the only animals that get drunk, monkeys do it to and they don't get ostracized as badly as bees. In fact they tend to do it together, as will elephants will get high together.

Not sure we can judge the animal world with our standards. I mean we can but it's humans that have the ability to rise above and conquer their animal nature.

Ethical standards are for us humans. Assuming God is an omnipotent being, any ethics or standards wouldn't apply.

So yeah we can look at the rest of the universe and criticize it according to one ethical standard or another, but it really serves no purpose as ethics is something that sets us humans, and perhaps other intelligent beings if they exist, apart from the rest of the universe.

Have you participated in a thread called....Divergence?

So this would be the onset of a social hierarchy?
The foundation of law?

Thanks for your input (and everyone else, of course). If I may ask, if there is no difference between homo sapiens and the rest of the animal kingdom (despite our apparent ability to be rational and our presumably "higher intelligence"), are value judgements about the behaviour of own species useful, or not, in your opinion?

Many thanks

I don't actually believe we are more rational and intelligent than the rest of the animal kingdom. I attribute our gadgets to opposable thumbs and the invention of written communication.

Value judgments are pointless. My ethics is driven by pure pragmatism. Suffering is unpleasant to experience and to witness, so we should seek to minimize it. Killers and rapists cause suffering, so they should be separated from the community or euthanized, as we do with dangerous or uncontrollable pets.

I agree with this!

And one third of heaven said....nay.

That Man is less than we are ...He should be made to serve us.

There's nothing wrong with that logic.
We humans do so unto any lesser creature.
We saddle horses and break their spirits.'
They take us where we desire to go.
We chain dogs and take away their pack and hunting.
We expect their loyalty and obedience.
We cage little birds for their love songs.
That creature will never find the mate he sings for....
and will die confined and alone.

Many things we kill ...just cause we don't like them.

To whom do we bear resemblance?

A fight broke out....brother angel against brother angel.
One third of heaven fell.

One third lost position over an argument about something that looks like us.
They want us dead.
Two thirds of heaven lost their brothers over an argument about something that looks like us.
They might not care.

Why should heaven be content as some talking ape stands in the place of a fallen brother?
To whom do we bear resemblance?

That's my perspective.
