Another question for gays and lesbians...

Why is it important for some gays and lesbians to determine if the bible actually says the lifestyle is a sin?
Hope that is not a dumb question...

It's very important to gay and lesbian Christians for obvious reasons.

It's important to some gay men and lesbians who aren't Christians because the Bible is used to demonize us.

Personally, I just find it interesting. I don't think the teachings of the Bible should carry the slightest weight with regard to equal rights under the law.

That's an awfully strong reaction to a pretty mild question. Care to tell us what's going on here?

My opinion is there are way more verses about helping, loving, compassion, devotion, faith and how to glorify God, as opposed to the number about why being gay 'is an abomination'.

Agreed. Dumbest question ever. Gays do not, I repeat, DO NOT give a **** what the bible says about their lifestyle. Anyone here disagree? I'd love to start that debate.

Biblical interpretation is so vague and ambiguous... That, my dears, is why there are well over 30,000 denominations in existence, which will say "the Bible says" and then come up with completely contradictory doctrines. There are scholars far more intelligent than I who will affirm that the anti-gay clobber passages have nothing to do with loving same-sex relationships.

The Bible's been used to justify all sorts of stupid actions and prejudices. One reason why I think scripture-centered religions can be dangerous. My final authority isn't scripture, but human decency and my own conscience.

Conservative Christians have made it their life's work to see us gays disappear... so much so that they seem to have forgotten this dude named Jesus...

One more thing. The term "gay lifestyle" is misleading, and frankly, offensive at least to me. Gays lead a variety of lifestyles like straight folks.

In large part the import of determining if the bible actually says anything at all about my life and my sexuality is the fact that hate filled people claiming to "love" me use that book as a weapon to strip me of rights, to justify physical, emotional and psychological violence against me, to justify criminalizing my private life, to prevent me from serving in the military, and generally be jerks. All while ignoring the other inconvenient and not so socially acceptable things that book says are perfectly fine, often in the next verse. That is the only reason in my Heathen mind to read that book. Know thy enemy.

Now before folks freak out, no, I do not consider everyone claiming to be a christian to be my enemy. There are exceptions to every rule.
