What are the terms/conditions or state of unemployment payments in your region?

We have Centrelink in Australia, it is like the huge-*** Dole office. Average person on Centrelink payments gets around $389 Australian a fortnight. It's not really much to live on,but I guess it's something..

I am interested in how uemployment payments system works wherever you are..

My mom's on disability, which isn't the same as unemployment, I know, but has similar features, government-wise. She gets paid the third of every month, which made it interesting when we my sister and I were kids, because we'd always look forward to "The Third" as the big shopping day when we would get groceries and whatnot.

that is through Social Security right? How does that work....its about 800 a month right?

I was on unemployment for one month many years ago but it took a while to get set-up at the time and I learned somethings about it where before I knew nothing. The qualifications, for state unemployment are linked the strongest to your reason for unemployment. You have to have unvoluntarlily lost your position which means been fired or layed off. A layoff (which is what happened to me) is almost an automatic acceptance into the program whereas a firing goes deeper into the reason for your termination. Both sides can offer reasons to the Texas workforce commission which than renders a decision. Many companies, from what I learned from the Texas workforce employees, will auto decline a claim to delay payouts hoping you will be reemployed in the interm. The reason is that they share part of the financial burdon along with the other 1/2 being the tax payers of the state. Some of the reasons you cannot be given money if you were fired because you committed a crime outside of work, stole from your employer, engaged in fight or sexual conduct while at work...actually the list is long but because I was layed off I didn't really look at it...layoffs are almost automatic. I didn't get any resistance from my employer at all.

If you qualify you are put on an indexed scale. The more you made in your last job the more you get paid by the Tx workforce Commission and visa versa. At the time I was making over 50k which was the cap so I got the most you could get (If i remember correctly it was a really long time ago) which was a little over a 1000 us dollars a month. To qualify to recieve payments I had to register with the Texas workforce commission which is a state run job hunt firm in addition to being an umployment claims firm. I had to go to meetings with others where I found that most others at the meetings were also layed-off people. I had to make an effort to find work and provide proof I was doing so if they requested proof. I think the unemployement only lasted about 12 months but I am not sure ..i was only one it for one month. Probably the best thing I discovered about it though was that the Texas workforce commission, which does not charge for job locating is a tax run program and if you already have a job but still want to use their services their are no head hunter fees and the resources for job hunting were really up there ..better than some private places I had used in the past that charged the employer a fee for services rendered.
