IMO, there's only two possible answers to the AiG question. Either they're dishonest or they're deluded. Either they know the stuff that they are putting out there is garbage and they are choosing to do it anyway (for money, for the lulz, or any other number of reasons), or they honestly believe that they're right, in which case, they are suffering from very serious delusions.

Honestly I don't know which is worse.

I'm sure they mean well.

I don't think so.

How can you have good intentions for people whom you willfully deceive?

These folks have dedicated their lives to lying.

You're assuming they have the ability to discern truth from falsehood.

They take scientific findings, mutilate these findings to fit their interpretation of Christianity, and re-present them again as science.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see the intellectual dishonesty here.

I certainly don't think that they have the ability to discern truth. They can discern when they steal the work of others or just make stuff up.

Oh, what you're saying makes good sense, and I generally agree with it. It's just that, anymore, I'm just not so convinced that people like this actually know they're being dishonest in any way. Their level of delusion is so extreme that it may render any conscious awareness regarding honesty/dishonesty so insignificant, as to be meaningless.

Charlatans, liars, or psychotically deluded?
All of these.

Scriptural literacy is foolish at the best of times. Trying to twist science to conform to such beliefs is even worse.

A lot of it is plain funny to hear, like the "Banana fits in the human hand, so it must have been designed for us by God!" :)facepalm:) but it's kind of creepy to think some people actually buy this nonsense.

I wouldn't put it past them - they would have to be really stoopid for that.

But you don't have to know the truth to willfully deceive people.

Alright, let's start with their core statements. On their site, they state their goal:
To support the church in fulfilling its commission.
They state their vision:
Answers in Genesis is a catalyst to bring reformation by reclaiming the foundations of our faith which are found in the Bible, from the very first verse.
They state their mission:

  • We proclaim the absolute truth and authority of the Bible with boldness.
  • We relate the relevance of a literal Genesis to the church and the world today with creativity.
  • We obey God’s call to deliver the message of the gospel, individually and collectively.
That is, they make it clear, as clear as can be, they are a religious site, and their goal is to promote their religion. It's honest, it's upfront, it's clear.

So why do YECs say they're doing science, and hold them up as an example of creation science? They're not, and they say as much.

My only guess would be that in battle, you use whatever weapons you have. Of course, if you are armed with 17th century weaponry it might not be the best choice to attack a modern-armed force, but I wasn't consulted about that decision.

Mowing down rows of pikemen with an M-50 gets boring quickly. Think I'll switch to the flamethrower.

Alright, I went to their site and clicked on the first link. It appears to be on the subject of geology. Now before we analyse the article at all (which I'm not really qualified to do, knowing very little about the subject), shouldn't a Christian who comes to the site find it odd to find the very first thing there to be about geology, rather than theology? I've never been Christian, but I think I would have been quite startled by that, and would have wondered what on earth "Regional Metamorphism" (whatever that turns out to be) has to do with sin, salvation, God's laws, Christ's ministry, or anything remotely connected with the Christian Faith.

It's just plain weird.

Unless they're not really a Christian apologetics site, which is what they're claiming to be?

This bears further scrutiny.
