I have read that one soviet missile that holds multiple warheads can take out the state of Texas. The next time someone calls you crazy, remind them of this fact and that our prestigious world leaders made it possible over a period of several decades.

Or possibly you shouldn't know as much?

one reason why all post nuclear people construct their own private idaho in their heads and find some hopium to make them comfortably numb...as soon as they can, thus the hypocrisy of their venal empty consumer existence in the face of their utter check-mate position doesn't gnaw on their soul so noticably

Nothing is worth knowing. I like that.
I like knowing everything I can. Even if it sucks. Like how I poetically and metaphorically sold my soul for all the knowledge I can soak up.
Eventually this lead to me realizing I had no actual evidence for believing in gods or an afterlife, and only was because it was comforting, and I gave those beliefs up.
And then I had a spiritual experience and just don't know.

They do stand as a hammer over the heads of humanity. If I had my way, they would be torn down and beaten into wind chimes.

Doesn't bother me. Maybe the necessity and worth of an Answer is in the path one takes to get to it.

the doctrine of mutually assured destruction seems unable to curb humanities homicidal and megalomaniac tendencies....terrorism and all the rest hasn't worked either, now it is a virus......hmmmmm.o_O

I would think keeping something around that is a comfort to be beneficial. Like a warm blanket, or a hug.
Those aren't beliefs. We know blankets are warm and are comfy and help us sleep on a cold night.
I was hit with the realization I had no evidence for supporting beliefs in personal deities and an afterlife.
Sort of like how learning the OT was heavily plagiarize from those in close proximity to the ancient Hebrews helped push me away from Christianity.

Belief is a warm blanket to me, it exists, as I do.

LOL! You know, when I see people wearing a mask while driving alone in their car, or donning rubber chemical mask for an afternoon jog, I know people have reached a new level of fear.

Is it always right to have THE answer, to something?

Or are some things best left unknowable?

What makes an Answer worth knowing?

If you can use the answer to your benefit. However there is the case you can use an answer to your benefit even if it is a lie.

If what you use for your own benefit causes something detrimental to someone else, it become a moral issue whether to make use of it.

But if you don't have the Answer how do you know if it will be of Benefit?

There have been many things I thought must be true only to find out the answers were different. This can be deeply disturbing at first but later with better understanding becomes comforting. Here are a few examples I thought about.

I once thought humans were primarily rational cognitive animals with reason driving decisions only to find out we are emotionally driven animals with a rationally aspect of the brain that tries to do its best to control but more often fails than succeeds. This was disturbing at first but with better understanding things irrational things I have done finally makes sense and I learn how to improve my reaction (never completely successful, but better). It has helped me to understand others and their reactions too.

It was very comforting to believe there is a heaven that we go to. Losing that belief was hard any yet it helped me to become better connected with this world and feel a complete connection with our planet earth and all of its life.

I believed for a long time that Northern European pagan traditions existed and continued underground in some form finally resurfacing when changes in religious tolerance improved. The thought that they were recreated was disturbing. I let go of that and realized we can learn from what we do know including the symbolic aspects and learn from the same world that they did to keep the practices alive and to grow. Now it finally feels comfortable to be a pagan with a nice blend of Norse and Celtic along with a touch of First American (native american).

I spent years and years looking for the wisdom of the ages that some ancient scroll/text would give all the answers of life learning the wisdom of world religions only to find out that the real answers to the meaning of life are just beyond my door (not the street door the back door were life still flourishes. (this was so beautifully said towards the end of the movie My Octopus Teacher that some mentioned in the forum).

So some answers that are difficult to accept at first can become comforting in time.

Or laziness. My buddy wears a mask all the time outside of his house because he says he's too lazy to take it on and off each time he goes in somewhere.

He's pretty lazy. I believe him when he says this.

I wondered about that too. I forget mine each time I leave the car and have to return for it once I notice others wear theirs.
