Any Bodhran Players Here? Did You Find it Hard to Learn?

I just picked one up today because we're playing a house concert in a month and the people who hired us stipulated that they wanted bodhran playing. So, I've got a month to get it down. I bought one at lunch today. Of course the lady that hired us doesn't know I've never played one before. I know at least a half dozen or more players, so I can get tips.

You might find it easier to use your hand than a tapper starting off. Once you can let go of your wrist it's easy.

Stefan Hannigan (sp?) had a good book at one time - I don't know is it still available

Try also Steafan Hannigan's DVD, The Bodhran DVD, to accompany the book. I learned a lot by watching his technique.
Triplets are hard to play, but once you 'let go', they come naturally. I found that by not focussing on them or trying too hard, they just happened and can now play them reasonably well.

Slainte!
